Fremont was incorporated in 1956, but its modern history actually began with the founding of Mission San Jose in 1797. San Jose itself is a combination of towns that sprang up near the mission and eventually became the heart of Silicon Valley, but Fremont is now home to more than 230,000 people as well as the Old Mission itself. 

If you want to have a good time in Fremont, one great place to go is Central Park. This park centered around Lake Elizabeth is home to a golf course, a boat rental, a dog park, and multiple playgrounds. One of the park’s most beloved attractions is the Aqua Adventure Waterpark, which contains areas like the Fortress of Fun and Bucket Bay. 

Those in search of some local history should check out Ardenwood Historic Farm, which is a working farm that looks like it came straight out of the late 1800s. Another historic place to visit is the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, a museum dedicated to silent films which is housed in an old silent movie theater built in the early 1900s. The Niles Depot Museum is another historic place built during that time period; it features exhibits that center around Fremont’s railroad history.
