Cruise to Antioch in you RV rental from RVshare! A suburb of Oakland and San Francisco, the city of Antioch was founded in 1850 and one of the oldest towns in California. Although at the onset the city was named Smith’s Landing, it was renamed Antioch after the biblical city of Antioch. Known as the “Gateway to the Delta”, the city is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River and it is fast developing into a residential community with land remaining plentiful and very affordable in comparison to the other cities located in the Bay Area. This has not gone unnoticed as more commercial establishments and financial institutions expanding their businesses in the city.
 
You would be surprised to know that Antioch has 4 historic places or buildings on the National Register of Historical Places and numerous parks and trails that are very interesting to visit. We have come up with our list of favorites, which we are sharing with you. Popular Tourist Attractions

Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve

A 6,000-acre park under the administration of the East Bay Regional Park District, the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is a great place to start your visit. It is approximately five miles from Antioch and located north of Mount Diablo. It showcases relics of 5 ghost towns, former coalmines and sand mines, and 60 miles of trails. It has two visitor centers, the Sidney Flat Visitor Center which contains displays of photographs and artifacts from the 1800s and early 1900s, and the Greathouse Visitor Center situated in an underground chamber which was excavated in the 1920s and contains, photographs, displays, videos, and artifacts depicting the park's sand and coal mining eras. It is a great park for picnicking and hiking. You can also take a Hazel-Atlas Mine Tour, which is on a first come, first saved basis.

El Campanil Theatre                     

Located right in the heart of the city, the El Campanil Theatre is one of the most important landmarks in Antioch. The theatre opened its doors to the public in 1928 and was owned and operated by the Stamm family until 2003.  The first phase of its rehabilitation was completed in 2004 and has since been used for a wide variety of entertainment.  The dressing rooms of the theatre is adorned by hundreds of autographs that date back to the theater’s opening and its auditorium still has its Moorish chandeliers, wall sconces and original ornate paintings. Prewitt Family Water Park

If you are visiting the city during the summer season, you can cool off at the Prewitt Family Water Park, a city-operated family friendly park located just a few minutes from the heart of the Antioch. The park features an adult pool, kiddie pool, toddler pool, lap pool, activity pool and waterslides.  You can spend the whole day in the water park and enjoy its refreshing cool water, have some chow at the snack bar or enjoy picnicking with friends or family. The park season starts during the Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day.
 

Campgrounds and State/National Parks

Sugar Barge RV Resort and Marina

The Sugar Barge RV Resort and Marina is a great option if you want to be a few steps away from a waterfront and be just a few minutes away from the city of Antioch. You can enjoy numerous water activities in the fun-filled RV Park. It has 114 shaded full hookup sites with patois and room for slideouts. Amenities and services include wi-fi internet access, recreation room with kitchen facilities, swimming pool, picnic area with barbeque grills, horseshoe pits, laundry facilities, restrooms and showers, RV/Boat Storage. It has its own restaurant, Sugar Barge Outdoor Bar & Grill, which is open during the summer season. Sugar Barge RV Resort and Marina is open all year round.

Rio Viento RV Park

Located on Sherman Island about 11 miles from the city of Antioch, the Rio Viento RV Park will make you feel like you are having a vacation from a vacation! It has 71 paved full hookup sites that are wide and long enough to accommodate RV's with multiple slide-outs. If you want to immerse yourself with water activities then this RV Park is for you! Enjoy windsurfing, boating, jet skiing, wake boarding, fishing, and kayaking at any time of the day! Amenities and services include wi-fi internet access, horseshoes, and restroom and showers. The Rio Viento RV Park is open all year round.

Duck Island RV Park & Fishing Resort

Approximately 14 miles from Antioch, the Duck Island RV Park & Fishing Resort is located along the banks of the Sacramento River. It is strategically located so you can explore the cities of Antioch and Rio Vista. It is a great place to stay if you love to go fishing. It has a total of 50 spaces, 25 of which are shaded full hookup sites with patios and room for slideouts. Amenities and services include a clubhouse with kitchen and meeting room, six lighted fishing docks, grassy areas with picnic tables and views of the Sacramento River, and RV supplies. Fish baits are available with free ice. Please bear in mind that you must have a California fishing license and follow all California State Fish and Game regulations, if you intend to go fishing. Duck Island RV Park & Fishing Resort is open all year round.
 

Events

Annual Holiday Run and Walk for Health

Held at the Contra Loma Regional Park, the Annual Holiday Run and Walk for Health is a fun-run event, which can be enjoyed by everyone. It features fun run for kids, adults, senior citizens and families. Aside from the fun runs, it also features health fair vendors who will be providing health testing, fitness information, and healthy food and drink sampling. The fun run will benefit local schools, youth, and libraries,

Delta Blues Festival

A musical oriented even held every fall season at the historic Rivertown district of Antioch, the Delta Blues Festival showcases numerous Blues artists performing live. It is a one-day event, which draws in hundreds of Blues fans to Antioch annually. Aside from the live performances, the festival features crafts and food booths. The Delta Blues Festival is an alcohol-free event and everyone is encouraged to join the fun.
