No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum

Considered among the oldest coal mines in the world, the No. 9 Coal Mine & M officially opened its doors for mining in 1855.It was later opened to the public as a museum in 2002, and guests are offered a train ride into this mine which goes 1,600 feet into the mountains. Once inside the mine, you will have the opportunity to check out a 900-foot deep elevator that was used to haul coal into the surface. Additionally, there are lots of photos on display of the miners. You will also have the opportunity to check out some of the tools used in coal-mining back then. It is a great history lesson for the whole family. The No.9 coalmine was continuously mined from 1855-1972.

Grey Towers National Historic Site

Overlooking the Delaware River, Grey Towers National Historic Site is a house that at one time belonged to Gifford Pinchot, who was the first ever director of the US forest service. Its architectural design is in a French style, which was a deliberate attempt to depict the family`s French origin. The house and its surrounding area cover a total of 102 acres. The area surrounding the house has great hiking and biking trails. Visitors are welcomed to visit this historic site 7 days a week. The Pinchot family donated this house to the US forest service in 1963, and since then the service has continued to manage it. Visitors also get to visit the Pinchot institute, which has numerous collections of his conservation work. Guided tours are also offered, both within the house and its surroundings in an RV rental Poconos.

Pocono Garlic Festival

This is a 2-decade old event, which normally occurs over the Labor Day Weekend. Guests have a chance to sample over 60-different cuisines, which have been prepared using garlic as one of the ingredients. For instance, garlic ice cream always attracts curious onlookers, and most people cannot have enough of it. This event is all about everything garlic, from paintings, pottery and other works of art.

Art on Main

This is an annual event held on Downtown Stroudsburg, at the Pocono Arts Council. This event attracts artists and craftsmen from all over the Pocono Mountains region, who showcase their exhibits to a huge audience. Additional entertainment such as music and kids fun activities is always provided.

Pocono Mountains Bluegrass Festival

This is a 2-day music festival held annually in the month of June. There is lots of music and entertainment, kid’s fun activities and musical workshops.
