Compare RVs For Rent in Colorado

Colorado is one of the great RV road trip destinations in the American West — from Rocky Mountain National Park and the ski towns of Vail and Breckenridge to the ancient cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde and the towering sand dunes of the San Luis Valley. You'll find a wide variety of RVs for rent by owner in the RVshare marketplace.

Before booking, it helps to know which type of RV fits your itinerary. RVshare offers three main classes:

  • Class A — Full-size motorhomes, best for resort-style campgrounds like Chatfield State Park or longer drives on wide, flat routes like I-25 and I-70 through the Front Range. Keep in mind that the Million Dollar Highway (US-550) and Wolf Creek Pass are not suitable for large Class A rigs — know your route before booking.

  • Class B — Camper vans, ideal for navigating Colorado's mountain towns, fitting into tighter campgrounds near Rocky Mountain National Park, and accessing roads and trails that larger rigs simply can't reach.

  • Class C — Mid-size motorhomes, the most versatile option for families balancing city days at Red Rocks or the Denver Botanic Gardens with national park road trips to Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, or Great Sand Dunes.

Once you know your size and towing preference, you'll be able to compare prices, amenities, the ability to bring pets, heating and cooling, extras, and height of the vehicle — critical in Colorado, where the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel on I-70 has a 13-foot-11-inch clearance and many scenic byways have strict length limits.

Average Colorado RV Rental Prices

Prices vary by type. RV rentals in Colorado average $183/night across all types. Motorhomes range from $149/night for Class B camper vans — the most affordable and most flexible for Colorado's varied terrain — up to $185/night for Class A motorhomes. Towable options start lower — travel trailers from $60/night, popup campers from $65/night, and fifth wheels from $70/night.

What to Know Before Booking Your Colorado RV Trip

Colorado's campsite reservation system is one of the most competitive in the country — and the mountain roads add a layer of planning most RVers don't expect:

  • Plan around I-70 and Colorado's mountain roads. I-70 is the main artery into the mountains and one of the most congested roads in the country on ski weekends — summer Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings can mean 3–4 hour backups. Plan mountain arrivals for Thursday or Saturday morning. In winter, trailers and towed vehicles can be restricted from I-70 west of Golden during storms — check COtrip.org before every mountain drive. The Million Dollar Highway (US-550) through the San Juan Mountains has no guardrails and tight switchbacks — not suitable for large Class A rigs. Wolf Creek Pass on US-160 is steep with a recommended speed of 35 mph for large vehicles. Know your rig before committing to any scenic byway.

  • Book campgrounds and permits at the same time. Rocky Mountain National Park requires both a timed-entry permit AND a separate campsite reservation — they open through different systems and both fill fast. Moraine Park and Glacier Basin go within minutes of opening 6 months ahead. Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison all fill fast in summer. Colorado State Parks open reservations 6 months in advance; Eleven Mile and Ridgway sell out within minutes on opening day. Plan your itinerary around campground availability first.

  • Factor in altitude — it affects everything. Colorado's average elevation is 6,800 feet — the highest of any state. Gas engines lose roughly 3% of power per 1,000 feet; a Class A on an 11,000-foot pass is working significantly harder than at sea level. Diesel rigs handle elevation better than gas. Give yourself a day to acclimate above 8,000 feet before strenuous activity, drink more water than usual, and plan hikes to be back below treeline before 2 p.m. — afternoon thunderstorms above treeline are a daily summer pattern and lightning is serious.

  • Know Colorado's fire restrictions before you go. Fire restrictions change frequently and apply most summers from July 1 through October 15 in foothill and mountain areas. Check the Colorado Fire Restrictions website before any trip involving campfires. Use designated fire pits and make sure your rig has no dragging chains — they're a known cause of roadside grass fires that spread quickly in dry conditions.

  • Use Denver as your gear-up stop before heading into the mountains. Denver has REI flagship stores, Camping World, Costco, and over 150 craft breweries in the metro area — everything you need before heading into more remote terrain. Denver's street parking has a 72-hour limit for RVs and residential zones require a special permit — stay at a campground and use light rail into the city. Denver is also the best place to pick up or receive delivery of your RV before heading west on I-70.

Popular RV Parks and Campgrounds in Colorado

If you plan on staying in Colorado for some time, consider staying at one of the Colorado Springs and Aurora campgrounds. Goldfield RV Park in Colorado Springs offers nine pull-through RV sites with amazing amenities, including free satellite TV and high-speed Wi-Fi. There is even a dump station to get rid of your RV's waste, and the campsites are just $32 a day.

There are some great camping spots near Denver, such as the Dakota Ridge RV Resort in Golden. It sits between the mountains of Summit County and the city of Denver, providing 141 full-service and premium sites year-round with free Wi-Fi and a heated outdoor pool and hot tub. A clubhouse that features a fireplace, fitness center, and billiard room is also on-site.

RV Dump Stations in Colorado

It's essential to get rid of your RV's waste, especially if you plan to travel for days. You’ll find plenty of dump station options in CO: Some places that offer a dump station include the Giant Gas Station in Durango and the Pilot Flying J Travel Plaza in Aurora. State parks and national parks offer dump stations as well.

You can also find dump stations in many RV parks and campgrounds, including Golden Clear Creek RV Park and Mountaindale Campground & Cabins in Colorado Springs. Both of these camping spots offer their dump station for free to any registered guest but charge a small fee to non-registered guests.

Notable National and State Parks in Colorado

Climb some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park — which made it to the top of the list of RVShare's top parks like the Grand Canyon. Hike along the south and north rim trails or explore the inner canyon and surrounding wilderness.

Colorado has four of the most amazing national parks. Mesa Verde National Park in southwest Colorado is home to some of the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan ruins in the United States and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are more than 4,300 archeological sites in the park, and visitors can see many of them up close and learn how the Pueblo people survived the cold winters and hot summers in the area.
