Fairfield is one of the seven cities in Solano County, California. Before 1810, the earliest native inhabitants of the city were the Native Americans who settled in the Rockville and Green Valley areas. An excavation team uncovered artifacts that dated back five to six thousand years in the area. The settlers lived on the land peacefully for years until a Spanish army led by Gabriel Moraga attacked the Suisun, forcing them to retreat. In 1937 Chief Solano applied to the Mexican governor for a land grant for his people.
The Suisun Rancho grant was approved, which covered most of the Suisun Valley. The United States Air Force built a major base installation east of Fairfield in 1942, boosting the local economy. A year later, Waterman Park Federal Housing was created to provide housing for the airmen and their families. After the war in 1953, the city of Fairfield purchased the park.
