Garden of the Gods
Located in Colorado Springs, this National Natural Landmark has some of the most fascinating red rock formations in all of North America. To enjoy the terrain, visitors can hike, ride bikes and horses, and even climb some of the rock faces. Visitors can learn more about the area at the park’s Visitor and Nature Center. The park is open 9:00am to 5:00pm in the winter months and 8:00am to 7:00pm in the summer.
On the grounds of the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, the Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum boasts an impressive collection of aircraft and spacecraft. Aviation fans of all ages can marvel at planes like the X-Wing Starfighter and the F-14A Tomcat. Rotating exhibits are a blend of education and excitement, and there are regular demos and events for visitors. For the convenience of guests, the museum is open seven days a week.
Pikes Peak Cog Railway
The fun of classic train travel and the beauty of panoramic Rocky Mountain views converge at the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the delight of all visitors. It’s the world’s highest cog railway, going up an astonishing 14,115 feet. On the three hour trip covering almost nine miles, riders can see beautiful examples of the region’s vegetation and wildlife, a natural falls, and of course, a great view of Pikes Peak itself. Riders are even given time at the top to get off and explore a bit. The railway is open every day in the summer with limited hours in the winter when you visit in an RV rental Eastern Slope Colorado.

Garden of the Gods Campground
Situated just outside the park for which it’s named, the Garden of the Gods Campground has many RV sites with full hookups, plus bunkhouses, cottages, and other on-site accommodations. It’s a lovely place to spend the night or an entire day.
Lone Duck Campground
Located just outside of Colorado Springs in Cascade, this May-through-September campground has full hookup RV slots plus cabins. There’s a fishing pond on site, a swimming pool and splash pad, and restrooms and showers. With proximity to Pikes Peak and a host of other Eastern Slope attractions, Lone Duck is ideally situated for a fun Rocky Mountain getaway.
Lathrop State Park
More than a mere campsite, this Walsenburg Park is a true outdoor paradise. Located near the Spanish Peaks, Lathrop State Park offers boating, fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, birdwatching, and more. There’s even a new archery range. RV sites with electric hookups are available; there’s no water or sewer service. Tent camping is also popular at the park.
Events
Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo
An annual tradition in Colorado Springs since 1937, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is a classic Colorado good time. After an opening parade, the rodeo kicks off with a full program of riding and roping competitions. The event is held in July, so if you’re planning your getaway in the summer, this is a great down-home event that gives you a taste of local flavor.
Colorado Balloon Classic
Colorado’s largest air show is held on Labor Day weekend in Colorado Springs. It features balloon launches, educational activities, and loads of family friendly fun. Of course, the real draw is the aesthetics: the beautiful, colorful balloons rising in the sky against the backdrop of the Rockies.
The Rocky Mountains cover a vast expanse of the nation’s midsection, and there are many different ways to experience their splendor.
