The site, which is located about an hour southeast of Provo, UT, is one of many natural areas in Utah under the protection of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The area is also known for its stand of bristlecone pine trees, which are one of the longest-surviving life forms on the planet. Scofield Reservoir East Shore

This peaceful out-and-back trail is located in Scofield State Park on the eastern shore of the beautiful Scofield Lake. The very short trail is great for walking, running, and birdwatching. It's also kid-friendly and suitable for hikers of all ability levels. You're welcome to bring your dogs, but they'll need to stay leashed. Length: 0.7 miles Intensity: Easy

East Mountain Trail

This scenic loop trail is located in Manti-La Sal National Forest, which lies to the southwest of Price Canyon Recreation Area. The trail takes hikers up the impressive East Mountain, which is the highest point in Utah's Emery County. If you make it to the top of the route, you'll enjoy a stunning view of the national forest below. The ideal times to visit the trail are between March and November. Length: 3.7 miles Intensity: Hard

Left Fork of Huntington Creek Trail

This long out-and-back trail is also found in Manti-La Sal National Forest. In addition to hiking, the trail is an excellent destination for horseback riding. Despite its tranquil scenery, this route is not particularly popular, so you'll have a good chance of experiencing solitude during your visit. Length: 12.5 miles Intensity: Moderate

If you travel west of Price Canyon Recreation Area, you'll reach Scofield State Park, which lies on the shores of Scofield Reservoir. There, you can cast your fishing line for rainbow, cutthroat, and tiger trout. The tributaries are open for angling between the second Saturday of July and the end of the year. The peaceful lake also offers excellent opportunities for boating, jet skiing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and other watersports. There are multiple boat ramps and launching stations located around the reservoir.

The best destination for rock climbing near Price Canyon Recreation Area is Rock Canyon, which is located near Provo. Climbing enthusiasts will find a variety of routes suitable for climbers of all skill levels, including trad routes, super tall sport routes, and everything in between. In total, there are nearly 500 climbing routes to choose from.

If you enjoy wildlife observation, your best option near Price Canyon Recreation Area may be Manti-La Sal National Forest. As you hike through the lush forest, some of the creatures you may spot include black bears, mule deer, wapiti, yellow-bellied marmots, mountain goats, porcupines, moose, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, and badgers. You should also keep your eyes on the sky to observe red-tailed hawks, osprey, turkey vultures, golden eagles, and other interesting avian species.

Price Canyon Recreation Area is a lovely place to enjoy a quiet picnic. The campsites in the area are equipped with picnic tables, and there are also three group picnic areas. These group areas feature large picnic tables, toilets, fire rings, and parking spaces.

You're welcome to partake in BLM RV camping at Price Canyon Recreation Area. The BLM site features 12 large, well-spaced campsites that can accommodate RVs and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. These campsites are priced at $15 per night. There are no Bureau of Land Management campgrounds in the area that offer modern amenities or RV hookups, but you can find an RV park if you travel to one of the nearby towns. For example, you could travel south to Helper, UT, and stay at the Castle Gate RV Park.

Planning your Price Canyon Recreation Area BLM trip

If you're planning a trip to Price Canyon Recreation Area, keep in mind that the BLM site closes every year during the winter. Typically, the area is closed starting November 1st. If you're visiting during the summer, be sure to verify that there aren't any wildfires burning in the area. If there are, the BLM area may be closed to protect the safety of visitors. The road that leads up to Price Canyon Recreation Area is narrow and steep, and it features tight turns and switchbacks. For these reasons, it's not a good idea to have a total vehicle length of more than 40 feet. There is no water available at the site, so it's important to bring as much as you'll need for the duration of your trip.
