Fishing and Boating
Swasey's Beach boasts white sandy beaches, day-use areas, and boat ramps right on the Green River. Upstream from the campground, there are rapids perfect for kayaking. Outside of this recreation area, the Green River is a thriving fishery for brown trout and rainbow trout. The reservoir at Millsite State Park near Ferron is routinely stocked with tiger trout, splake, rainbows, and cutthroat trout.
Climbing
Some of the best climbing near the Head of Sinbad is in Canyonlands National Park. Try your hand at rock climbing the breathtaking sandstone towers at the renowned Island in the Sky. These are typically harder experiences, ranging from 5.9+ to 5.12b. Water refills and a helpful orientation video on the area are available at the Island in the Sky Visitor Center. The best time to visit is in the spring or fall to avoid most of the winter snow and high summer temperatures.
Wildlife Viewing
As you enjoy Utah's stunning landscape, watch out for native kangaroo rats, mule deer, turkey vultures, desert cottontails, and rattlesnakes. Other local animals include rock squirrels, hawks, eagles, bighorn sheep, antelope squirrels, ringtails, and porcupines. The lush environment also supports bigger species like black bears, bobcats, and mountain lions.
Picnicking
Consider planning one of your picnics near the historic Swasey's Cabin. This log structure was built in 1921 by the Swasey family, who were known to raise livestock. You're welcome to enjoy the views of the cabin or trek your way along the nearby trail. There are several trash cans by the Head of Sinbad, Black Dragon Petroglyph, and Lone Warrior Petroglyph.
ATVing
Exceptional off-roading experiences can be found at Bellevue Flats Trailhead, Eva Conover Trailhead, and Cane Wash Trailhead. Take your time tackling the canyons and valleys that stretch across the San Rafael Swell and Sids Mountain Wilderness Study Area. ATV riders are encouraged to wear protective helmets and utilize tall flags for improved visibility.
