Utah Lake State Park is located on Utah Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the Western U.S. Visitors to Utah Lake can enjoy a number of recreational activities in the park, such as fishing, boating, and swimming. A popular feature of this state park is its proximity to the city of Provo, the Provo Canyon, and the Provo River, which feeds the lake. There are many interesting natural attractions in the areas of Provo Canyon and Heber Valley, and the Wasatch Range mountains are also nearby. Salt Lake City is only 45 minutes from Utah Lake State Park, and you can travel easily to any of the places you want to see from this location in north-central Utah.

Inside Utah Lake State Park

Utah Lake offers a variety of water-based activities for all to enjoy. Besides boating, swimming, and fishing, you can also hike and bike on a number of trails in and around the park. In the park, there is a sailing school, a marina, and a rental service for different types of boating experiences.

Outside Utah Lake State Park

If you would like to leave the park and see other areas, you will easily find many interesting attractions in the area. The city of Provo also offers many opportunities for shopping and dining.

You can get a hot and tasty American-style breakfast at the Slate at the Marriott Hotel in Provo. They have the traditional breakfast options on their menu, and they also have an omelet bar. If you order coffee, they will bring you a large pot and leave it at the table. They also serve lunch and dinner.

Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls is a spectacular waterfall that cascades 600 feet from its highest point. A popular access point is via the entrance to Bridal Veil Falls State Park, where visitors can walk onto a viewing platform in front of the waterfall. Experienced ice climbers often come to try their skills at Bridal Veil during the winter months.

High Country Adventure Rafting and Zipline Tours

The High Country Adventure company offers several different combo adventure packages that center on rafting and taking zip line rides on and over the Provo River. One of the tours involves rafting on the Provo River, eating lunch on the riverbank, and then taking a short drive to Deer Creek State Park for rock climbing and zip-lining.

The Provo Canyon Scenic Byway

The Provo Canyon Scenic Byway is a 26-mile section of U.S. 199 that runs between the towns of Heber City and Provo. Beginning in Heber City, this visually stunning drive alongside the Provo River travels through Heber Valley and then on to Deer Creek Reservoir. It continues through the Uintah National Forest. There are several options for short side trips and stops, and Bridal Veil Falls is definitely worth the stop.

Provo River Parkway Trail

The Provo River Parkway Trail is a 15-mile paved section of a larger trail system that begins in Utah Lake State Park and ends in Vivian Park. This part of the trail is accessible to both casual walkers and serious hikers and bikers. Most of this trail runs beside the Provo River through Provo Canyon.

How to Get to
Utah Lake State Park

Utah Lake State Park is located west of Provo, Utah. From Salt Lake City, travel 48 miles south on I-15. Take Exit 265 and turn right. Follow the signs for 3 miles until you reach Utah Lake State Park.
