D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House Museum
A nationally-registered landmark, the D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House was built in 1891 by the Johnston family. D.D. Johnston pioneered the first school system in Norwalk. In 1882, he furnished Tom Lumbard the money to build a cheese factory in town which became the first real industry of Norwalk. His contribution to the educational and business development of the city during his time helped pave the way for Norwalk to become a very progressive city. In fact, an elementary school under the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School district is named after him. The D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House Museum features period pieces and other memorabilia related to the history of Norwalk. The museum is open to the public and is free of charge. The D.D. Dharma & Yoga Fest
The Dharma and Yoga Fest is held every September in the city of Norwalk. It aims to promote universal peace through mutual respect, a sense of harmony and spiritual oneness. It features a variety of activities such as a Dharma seminar, Haṭha yoga demonstrations, group meditation, Bhajan songs, Kirtan music, Satsang talks, and games for children. Holi Festival of Colors
The world’s happiest and most colorful Indian festival is also celebrated in Norwalk annually. It is a one day event held at the Excelsior High School in Norwalk.
