Hiking and Biking
Moenkopi Loop
This trail starts at the visitor center and follows a limestone ridge along an open-country trail. One of this trail's highlights is seeing the Wilson Cliffs, a massive escarpment on the facility's west edge. This trail is relatively flat, but there is no shade, so hiking it early in the day is recommended.

Fishing and Boating
Lake Mead is about 44 miles southeast of Red Rock Canyon, and it is an excellent place to go fishing. This lake, covering more than 244 square miles, lies partly in Nevada and partly in Arizona, and you need the correct fishing license. Anglers have caught striped bass weighing over 40 pounds at this location.
Climbing
Most routes at Red Rock Canyon are rated between a 5 and a 5.14. Sports climbs are available at Calico 1 and 2 and in the Sandstone Quarry. You will be climbing on quality sandstone. Black rocks are the hardest, making them the easiest to climb.
Wildlife Viewing
The scenic drive, with its numerous pullouts, is a fabulous place to spot wildlife. Since this is a desert environment, most animals are small, like lizards and reptiles. You may also see mule deer, gray foxes, and burros.
Picnicking
There are four picnic areas at Red Rock Canyon, with the one next to the visitor center having 12 picnic tables. About halfway through the scenic drive is the Willow Springs Picnic Area, and there are about 20 tables at this location. Located along State Route 159, there are about 10 covered picnic tables and nine uncovered picnic tables at the Red Rock Scenic Overlook Picnic Area. Grills and picnic tables are available at the Red Springs Picnic Area located in Calico Basin.
