Fishing and Boating
The Kimball Bridge (Highway 9) is a great place to fish for trout, bass, bullhead, and catfish. The nearby Confluence River Access provides more fishing access and a rail boat launch. This is also a great area to start your whitewater rafting adventure. Be aware that this site often serves as the put-in spot for Gore Canyon, which is considered an expert-level rafting experience.
Climbing
The Arapaho National Forest and Mount Evans Wilderness to the south are full of rock-climbing opportunities. Other local mountain peaks include Wolford Mountain, Mount Powell, Elk Mountain, and Vail Mountain. Always strive to leave the climbing trail better than you found it by packing out trash and waste.
Wildlife Viewing
Colorado is a mountainous state with a lot of bighorn sheep, elk, moose, bison, and bears. As you're fishing or exploring the forests, you're likely to see red squirrels, beavers, porcupines, white-tailed rabbits, and mule deer. The Colorado River creates the perfect environment for eagles, falcons, geese, herons, and goldfinches.
Picnicking
The Pumphouse Recreation Site has a picnic shelter with several tables as well as accessible vault toilets. You're also welcome to picnic in or around Kremmling. Feel free to eat near your RV or while you're on the banks of the Colorado River. Most organized picnicking areas around this location will be found near BLM campgrounds or trailheads.
Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting is one of the most popular pastimes on the Colorado River. Several expert-led tours and experiences start near Kremmling. The intensity of your rafting trip varies based on the season. More experienced rafters head out in the spring when the rivers are full from the melted snow. The best time for beginners is in the late summer or early fall when the rivers are running slower.
