Poinsett State Park sits on the high hills of Santee and descends to the Wateree Swamp. The park is known for its botanical variety, combining flora of the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills and Piedmont of upstate South Carolina. This site was originally used by various Siouan tribes of Native Americans, including Catawba, Santee, and Wateree. The park provides the most beautiful picturesque scenery of mountain laurel, pignut hickory, loblolly pine, flowering dogwood, and other tree species. Wildlife animals can be seen in the park, including reptiles, small game animals, and various bird species. Wedgefield, Sumter, and Pinewood, South Carolina, are just a few cities nearby.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love all the things they can do inside Poinsett State Park. Many hiking trails can be accessed through the park, including Hill Top Trail, Santee Passage, Palmetto Trail, Coquina Trail, Wateree Passage, and Laurel Group Trail. The park supplies boating access to the 10-acre lake, giving anglers the perfect opening to catch catfish, bass, and bream. Watersport activities here include canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, and stand-up paddleboarding. Visitors can also go swimming during the warmer months.

Poinsett State Park
If you're traveling from Wedgefield, you'll want to head south on SC-261 East toward Troublefield Road. Go for about 6 miles and then turn right onto Poinsett Park Road. Follow the signs to Poinsett State Park.
