The park is known for its botanical variety, combining flora of the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills and Piedmont of upstate South Carolina. This site was originally used by various Siouan tribes of Native Americans, including Catawba, Santee, and Wateree. The park provides the most beautiful picturesque scenery of mountain laurel, pignut hickory, loblolly pine, flowering dogwood, and other tree species. Wildlife animals can be seen in the park, including reptiles, small game animals, and various bird species. Wedgefield, Sumter, and Pinewood, South Carolina, are just a few cities nearby.
