Massachusetts has more RV-worthy destinations than most people expect — Cape Cod, the Berkshires, and the Pioneer Valley all have campgrounds worth building a trip around. The average rental runs about $135/night, with travel trailers starting around $90/night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175/night.
What to look for:
Cape Cod campgrounds have strict size limits. Most Cape Cod campgrounds — including Nickerson State Park — have site length limits between 35 and 40 feet. Some popular private campgrounds cap at 30 feet for certain loops. Know your total rig length before booking any Cape destination.
Summer Cape Cod traffic is severe — plan your driving days accordingly. Route 6 through the Cape in July and August can back up for miles on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. If you're moving camps on a weekend, plan to drive early morning or mid-week to avoid sitting in traffic with a rig.
A smaller unit opens up the most options on Cape Cod. Class B campervans and small Class C units (under 25 feet) have access to the widest range of Cape campgrounds. A 40-foot Class A works at Shady Knoll and similar larger private parks, but rules out several of the most scenic spots.
The Berkshires are excellent for larger rigs with no Cape traffic. Western Massachusetts — October Mountain State Forest, Tolland State Forest — has full hookup sites, far less congestion, and some of the best fall foliage in New England. A great alternative if Cape sites are booked solid.
Massachusetts rewards early booking and mid-week travel, particularly on Cape Cod.

Cape Cod National Seashore has no drive-in campgrounds. The National Seashore is a day-use destination. All overnight camping on the Cape requires a private or state park campground. Plan accordingly — the Seashore itself doesn't offer RV camping.
Massachusetts state park reservations open through ReserveAmerica. The system opens reservations up to 6 months ahead. Myles Standish State Forest (Plymouth) has over 400 sites and is a solid fallback when Nickerson is full.
Boston is not practical for RV access. The city has no RV-accessible parking near tourist areas. Base camp in Foxborough, Wrentham, or south of the city and use commuter rail for city days.
One of the finest RV parks in Massachusetts, Normandy Farms Family Camping Resort lies only 29 miles southwest of Boston among Foxboro's hills. Of the 367 RV campsites provided by the park, 212 are pull-throughs that are 40 feet wide and 60 feet long. The park features four swimming pools, a double-sized Jacuzzi, and sauna. Two modern playgrounds and a fitness center help keep the family fit while a dog park helps keep the family pets happy and healthy.
Located 21 miles southwest of Worcester, in Sturbridge, Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages escorts guests to their choice of 169 campsites. The quaint Sunsetview Farm Camping Area sits just 15 miles east of Springfield on an old dairy farm and orchard, offering a farm setting for campers looking to get away from urban life. Of its 200 RV sites, the area reserves 70 for temporary visitors, 55 of which offer full hookups with a choice of 30-amp and 50-amp service. A camp store carries groceries, RV supplies, firewood, and ice. Visitors find a relaxing atmosphere behind the protection of a controlled-access gate, with restrooms, showers, and a laundry facility available on-site.
Take the time before setting out on your adventure through Massachusetts to take note of the public dump stations available for use by RV travelers.
