Woha Council Fire – This Friday night event in August brings back campers and their families who have camped at Camp Hantesa since it opened in 1919.
Adel Sweet Corn Festival – This mid-August festival features a 5k race, family games, a parade, and other activities spread out across Adel, Iowa.
Ledges State Park is a fantastic place for a picnic near a quiet stream. After your picnic, have fun splashing in the water. This small park is also a terrific place to go rappelling.
Black Hawk State Park is home to the southernmost glaciated lake in the United States. There are two swimming beaches. The 1.6-mile-long Stubb Severson Nature Trail is a great place to learn about this park's plant life. Challenge your friends to a friendly game of disc golf or miniature golf.
The 3,000-acre lake at Clear Lake State Park is a great place for water activities. You can go canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, windsurfing, or sailing, and there is a 500-foot-long beach. The 3-acre Scenic Woodford Island is a fantastic place to see wildlife.
While visiting Ames, stop at the Farm House on the Iowa State University campus. Workers constructed this building in 1860, and it served as home for the first two college presidents. The building serves as a campus museum.
There are fantastic Fort Dodge area campgrounds. Dolliver Memorial State Park is south of Fort Dodge, about 20 miles away. Hike along five miles of trails. The trails in Boneyard Hollow are beautiful. There is a campground, and most sites have gorgeous views of the Iowa river.
Kennedy Memorial Park features a 53-acre lake. Therefore, this campground about four miles north of Fort Dodge is a great place to go paddling and fishing. There is also an 18-hole golf course.
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area covers more than 6,500 acres. Fish from 21 miles of shoreline for bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and walleye. You may see pheasant, quail, white-tailed deer, and wild turkeys at this park, which is one of the largest in the state.
