Originally, the area that would eventually be Sioux City was inhabited by the Yankton Sioux Native American tribe. Spanish and French fur trappers arrived during the 18th century, and the first U.S. citizens to record their travels through the area were Lewis and Clark in 1804. The only death on their famous expedition occurred in the area when Charles Floyd passed away on August 20th, 1804. Sioux City was laid out during the winter of 1854 and 1855, and it soon became a major transportation hub to the western plains. Sioux City was officially incorporated in 1857.

Today, there are around 86,000 people living in Sioux City, which is located at the navigational head of the majestic Missouri River. The busy town is known as a hub for culture, entertainment, and shopping.
