Nearby National Parks

Shenandoah National Park  

You can reach the entrance of Shenandoah National Park by driving a little more than an hour south of Halfway, Maryland. There are plenty of enjoyable ways to explore this 300-square-mile part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you want to tour some of the park from the comfort of your vehicle, you can drive part of 100-mile Skyline Drive. Should you prefer to set out on foot, you can hike on more than 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail or on numerous other paths in the park. 

Cuyahoga Valley National Park  

Since Cuyahoga Valley National Park is only a minute off of your route as it goes through Peninsula, Ohio, so you can't miss this chance to take in this gorgeous national park on your Ocean City to Fargo RV road trip. This park is home to Brandywine Falls, which is Northeast Ohio's tallest waterfall. There are plenty of other waterfalls to see here; there's plenty of water, period, thanks to the hundred miles of the Cuyahoga River that are also part of the park. On dry land, you can hike, bike, and ride on more than 125 miles of trails that take you through forests, ravines, wetlands, and more. 

Indiana Sand Dunes National Park  

Another wonderful national park that's so close to your route that you can't help but add it to your road trip itinerary from Ocean City to Fargo is Indiana Sand Dunes National Park. The entrance to this park on Lake Michigan is only four minutes from Lake Station, Indiana. Visitors enjoy taking advantage of the sandy shores of Lake Michigan; this is an excellent place for water sports, swimming, and fishing. If you want to stay dry, you can hike on 50 miles of trails that wander past dunes, bogs, marshes, and forests. 

Isle Royale National Park  

If you're willing to drive an extra five hours and 45 minutes, then you'll be able to explore the rugged Isle Royale National Park. You'll have to take a ferry to reach the park, which is on an island in Lake Superior. Unsurprisingly, this national park is a great place to go kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and scuba diving. While you're hiking on the park's trails, you may see foxes, gray wolves, moose, beavers, and more. You can also explore multiple lighthouses, check out the wildlife refuge, and view a sea arch. 

Voyageurs National Park  

Another fabulous park that requires a bit of additional driving to reach is Voyageurs National Park. You'll have to travel four hours and 22 minutes north of St. Cloud, Minnesota, in order to reach this gem near the Minnesota/Canada border. Since more than 40 percent of the park is made up of water, it's an excellent location for kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing, and ice fishing. Some of the hiking trails are only accessible by water, but there are also regular trails that take you through forests, marshes, and wetlands.

Delaware Seashore State Park  

Just because you're starting your journey from Ocean City doesn't mean that you can't travel 25 minutes east of Dagsboro, Delaware, to spend some more time on the East Coast at Delaware Seashore State Park. Visitors flock to this state park to take advantage of the excellent swimming, surfing, and sunbathing opportunities. Six different trails take bikers, riders, and hikers through multiple environments.

Laurel Hill State Park  

If you want to spend some time in the Pennsylvania wilderness on your road trip from Ocean City to Fargo, then you'll want to stop by Laurel Hill State Park. Lovely Laurel Hill Lake is a fun place to go swimming, boating, and fishing; you can even rent a wide variety of watercraft at the park. You'll be able to explore 15 miles of trails that wind through old-growth forests, along creeks, and up into the mountains. 

Middle Bass Island State Park  

There are multiple outstanding parks in or on the Great Lakes on your road trip itinerary from Ocean City to Fargo; one of them is gorgeous Middle Bass Island State Park. Between the driving and the ferry ride, you'll have to travel roughly an hour and a half from Groton Township, Ohio, to reach this park out in Lake Erie. Since the park is located on an island, it's an outstanding place for boating, fishing, and swimming. There are no trails in the park, but you can explore at will on foot or by bike. If you want to take your RV to the island, you can transport it on the ferry and park it on a lot at the park.

Rock Cut State Park  

The entrance to Rock Cut State Park is right off of your route as it goes through Caledonia, Illinois, so it's a great park to visit on your Ocean City to Fargo RV road trip. Rolling plains, hardwood trees, and abundant wildlife are all on display here. Plenty of great trails are available for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. Two beautiful lakes provide ample places for fishing, swimming, boating, sand volleyball, and even ice skating and ice fishing. 

Willow River State Park  

Five minutes from Hudson, Wisconsin is Willow River State Park, which is the home of fabulous Willow Falls. The park is fairly close to Minneapolis and St. Paul, so plenty of visitors flock to see the falls and the deep gorge and to camp at its RV-friendly campground. The Willow River and Little Falls Lake provide ample venues for fishing, boating, swimming, and ice fishing. You can go hiking, snowshoeing, and even dog sledding on 13 miles of trails.

Historic Ships in Baltimore  

Historic Ships in Baltimore is just 10 minutes from your route as it travels through Arbutus, Maryland. You can tour multiple museum ships like the USS Constellation and the USS Torsk here. Another great place to visit is the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, which is home to a variety of artifacts about the history of Chesapeake lighthouses. 

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium  

You can easily reach the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium by driving 20 minutes west of your route as it goes through Monroeville, Pennsylvania. At this zoo, you'll be able to visit exhibits like Worlds of Discovery, the Islands, African Savanna, and Jungle Odyssey. 

Cedar Point  

Thrill-seekers flock to Cedar Point in order to experience exciting rides like GateKeeper, Maverick, Raptor, and Rougarou. If you'd prefer to have some fun in the sun, you can hang out in the 18-acre waterpark that's full of rides like Crosscurrent, Lake Erie Nor'easter, and Perch Plunge. This park is easy to reach as it's only 20 minutes from Milan Township, Ohio.

Navy Pier  

This incredibly popular Chicago attraction is only 10 minutes from Interstate 90 as it passes through the Windy City. There are tons of fun places to eat, drink, and be merry at this sizable complex on Lake Michigan. Be sure to ride the Centennial Wheel so that you can see Chicago from 200 feet in the air.

Mississippi National River and Recreation Area  

If you want to go boating and canoeing on the Mississippi River, then this park, 10 minutes from Oakdale, Minnesota, needs to be on your road trip itinerary from Ocean City to Fargo. There are also plenty of awesome places to go walking, hiking, and biking in this park that stretches for 72 miles along Old Man River.
