This national park is fairly new, so it’s a hidden gem that’s full of gorgeous desert and mountain views. Popular methods of exploring this park are horseback riding, hiking, and backpacking. You can also explore a restored ranch and the remnants of an old stagecoach station. 

Hot Springs National Park  

Hot Springs National Park is three hours north of Shreveport, Louisiana. Obviously, people come to this park to bathe in the natural springs, but there are other great activities to do as well. You can visit the spa in the park for some true pampering. You can hike on the trails that take you through the forests and mountains surrounding Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Mueller State Park  

If you want to visit a gorgeous state park in the foothills of the Rockies near Pikes Peak on your Denver to Pensacola RV road trip, then you should travel 35 minutes west of Colorado Springs to Mueller State Park. The park’s more than 5,000 acres are home to 44 miles of trails open to hikers and bikers and 34 miles of trails suited for horseback riders. Maybe you’ll see some black bears, mule deer, elk, and other mountain animals on your adventure. If you’re visiting in the winter, you’ll get to go skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. 

Caprock Canyons State Park  

Gorgeous red rock formations galore are on display at stunning Caprock Canyons State Park. This state park 50 minutes west of Estelline, Texas, is home to eagles, prairie dogs, bats, and even a bison herd. You’ll be able to trek on 90 miles of trails that take you through the canyons, cliffs, gullies, and more of this Texas park. Dinosaur Valley State Park  

Before you leave the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex behind you, you should travel an hour southwest of Fort Worth to visit Dinosaur Valley State Park. As its name implies, this is a great park to see dinosaur footprints and to learn more about these large, fascinating creatures that once roamed the earth. The Paluxy River is a wonderful place to fish and swim. There are 20 miles of trails you can explore on foot, bike, or horseback. 

Lake Claiborne State Park  

Lake Claiborne State Park is only about 15 minutes north of Interstate 20 as it passes through Arcadia, Louisiana, so it’s a great stop on your road trip itinerary from Denver to Pensacola. Lovely Lake Claiborne is a top-notch place to go fishing, swimming, and boating; you can even rent boats and canoes in the park. You can go biking or hiking on six miles of trails. Two world-class disc golf courses are also on the premises for those who want to play a round or two. 

Gulf State Park  

You’ll be spending some time on Florida’s coast at the end of your road trip from Denver to Pensacola, but you should still explore Alabama’s coast by stopping by Gulf State Park. The park’s entrance is 40 minutes south of Interstate 10 as it goes through Robertsdale, Alabama. Since the park is right on the Gulf Coast, it’s an excellent place for swimming, fishing, sunbathing, and more. Be sure to take a stroll down the Gulf State Park Pier so that you can buy some snacks, souvenirs, and tackle.

Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center  

Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center is only about five minutes off of your route as it goes through Colorado Springs, so how could you pass up the opportunity to explore this fascinating environment on your Denver to Pensacola RV road trip? At this park, you can view gorgeous red rock formations by hiking on several different trails. Other fun activities include bike tours, segway tours, Jeep tours, and rock climbing.

Capulin Volcano National Monument  

Five minutes from Capulin, New Mexico, is the Capulin Volcano National Monument. At this park, you can drive or hike to the top of Capulin Volcano. Views of the New Mexico countryside and even the Rockies are visible. You can also stop by the visitor center so that you can learn more about the geology and wildlife of this area. 

Six Flags Over Texas  

Six Flags Over Texas is just seven minutes off of your route as it goes through Euless, Texas, in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Thrills for all ages can be found here thanks to exciting rides like AQUAMAN: Power Wave, El Diablo, New Texas Giant, and Titan. You can also easily find live entertainment, souvenir shops, and great places to eat here.

Shreveport Aquarium  

You can reach the Shreveport Aquarium by driving just two minutes from Interstate 20 as it goes through Shreveport, Louisiana. More than 3,000 animals representing more than 300 species live at this aquarium. You’ll be able to feed some stingrays, touch a variety of marine animals, and even hunt for treasure at this Louisiana aquarium. 

Vicksburg National Military Park  

Right after you cross the Mississippi River, you’ll be able to drive two minutes off of Interstate 20 to historic Vicksburg National Military Park. You can take in this sizable Civil War battlefield by self-guided tour, guided tour, cell phone driving tour, or audio tour CD. If you want to experience some of the difficulties of the soldiers who fought here, you can navigate wilderness terrain on the Al Scheller Hiking Trail.
