Hiking and Biking
Wilkins Peak Trails
The Wilkins Peak Trails are best suited to mountain biking and ATVs, but hikers can also complete this loop. The trail features a climb of over 2,000 feet, and the steep hills are covered in gravel, which can present a viable for even the most experienced hikers.

White Mountain Petroglyphs Trail
Petroglyphs created by the earliest people to inhabit Wyoming are the destination for hikers on this trail. The White Mountain Petroglyphs Trail can be difficult to find, with few signs marking its location. The hike is short and climbs less than 100 feet from start to end.

Fishing and Boating
One of the sites of the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Tour is the Green River. The fishing opportunities along the river are plentiful and offer anglers the chance to catch trout, Mackinaw, and whitefish. Rim Lake is located 30 miles east of Pilot Butte and gives RVers access to a boat ramp and day shelters.
Climbing
The long slopes of Pilot Butte provide an easy route to the top of the 4,138-foot-tall peak. The summit is popular with locals and visitors to Wyoming but offers little challenge to seasoned climbers. The granite faces of the Pink Towers of the Sierra Madre are located close to Pilot Butte, and there are several difficult climbs that reach elevations of up to 10,000 feet.
Wildlife Viewing
In addition to the famous herds of wild horses, you'll be able to see elk, deer, and rabbits. Impressive birds of prey, including the eagle, call the Pilot Butte area home.
Picnicking
The Pilot Butte area is well-equipped with picnic tables, grills, and firepits for visitors. Along the 24 miles of the Wild Horse Scenic Tour, you'll find shelters and viewing stations that double as picnic tables. There are also picnic tables and day shelters at the nearby Superior Mail Arrow Interpretive Site and the Point of Rocks Historic Cemetery.
Auto Tour
The chance to drive the 24 miles of the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Tour is a huge appeal for visitors. You can explore the gravel roads and seek out the herds of wild horses littering this portion of Wyoming.
