is located on Lake Billy Chinook, which is a reservoir formed by the damming of the Crooked, Deschutes, and Metolius rivers in central Oregon. This destination is ideal for those interested in fishing and hiking opportunities in the high desert. With amazing views of the river canyons, the park makes a great day trip for anyone passing through nearby Culver or Madras. Inside The Cove Palisades State Park

Lake Billy Chinook is a large man-made reservoir that's a popular destination for water-based activities. The Crooked River Water Trail offers six miles of paddling on the Crooked River section of the lake, and more experienced paddlers will also enjoy the two-mile section of the river south of the bridge. You can rent various types of watercraft at the marina. If you prefer some adventures on dry land, there are several hiking trails of varying difficulty in this state park.

Newberry National Volcanic Monument

The Newberry Volcano is a volcano with an elevation of 500 feet at the cone of Lava Butte. From the vantage point of Lava Butte, you can see out over the old lava flow or walk through the underground Lava River Cave, the mile-long lava tube of the volcano. Close by, you will also find many lakes and mountain peaks to visit.

Tumalo Falls

Tumalo Falls is 10 miles east of Bend and is a 97-foot waterfall that empties into Tumalo Creek. You can view the falls from the observation area at the bottom, or you can hike up a short trail and look down on the falls. There is also a loop trail that intersects with other trails for a longer hike.

High Desert Museum

Everyone in your family will have a great time touring the High Desert Museum, located just outside of Bend off Highway 97. Encompassing 135 acres, this center has an extensive number of exhibits, both inside and outside. There is a nature trail that connects many of the areas, like an aviary, an otter tank, and many informational and historical displays. There are also live animal interactions that take place throughout the day.

Pilot Butte

Pilot Butte is a popular site in Bend that serves as an area for casual walks as well as more strenuous hikes. There is a parking area at the top with access points to several trails that travel down the hillside.

Cascade Byway

Cascade Byway is a scenic drive that travels through the Cascade mountain range. You will see snow-capped peaks, pine-covered hills, and rolling meadows. The route starts in Bend and continues through Mt. Bachelor and past Sparks Lake, Devil Lake, Elk Lake, and Lava Lakes.

How to Get to
The Cove Palisades State Park

The Cove Palisades State Park is located in Culver, Oregon. 

From Portland, you will take US-26 E through Mt. Hood National Forest to Madras. Turn right on Highway 361 into Culver. Turn right on C Street, and then, turn right on Feather Rd. Turn left on Fisch Rd, which turns into Frasier Rd. Turn left on Jordan Rd.

From Salem, take OR-22 E for 80 miles and then turn left on US-20 E. Turn left on OR-126 E. Turn left on US-97. Turn left on OR-361 and continue into Culver. Turn right on C Street, and then, turn right on Feather Rd. Turn left on Fisch Rd, which turns into Frasier Rd. Turn left on Jordan Rd.
