Culver, Oregon, which has a population of about 1,500 people, was founded in the late 1800s and incorporated in 1946. The city was named by its original postmaster and founder, Orace Collver. In 1911, when the railroad was built, the entire town was uprooted and moved, sometimes a piece at a time, to be closer to the trains. Many townspeople used the old lumber and building materials from their houses to make new ones.
Today, Culver is a picturesque spot located near several state parks and national forests. Most of its residents are farmers, and the temperate weather throughout the summer provides an ideal climate for growing things like potatoes, garlic, mint, and alfalfa. Culver is located in the high desert, so although the town does see about 6 inches of snow every year, most days are clear and dry.
Although it's a relatively small town, Culver attracts thousands of visitors every year who come to explore the local landscape, take in the beautiful scenery, and use the town as a jumping-off point for hiking, biking, camping, fishing, sailing, and, of course, RVing. Visitors can also enjoy lunch, dinner, or coffee at one of the town's four restaurants. A local crawdad festival takes place every August.
Waterfront Blues Fest - A perfect summer celebration, this festival of music takes place at the beginning of July. Proceeds from the festival go towards ending hunger.
Oregon State Fair – Starting at the end of August, the Oregon State Fair runs until the first week of September every year. Here, you can enjoy some carnival foods, take in a competition, or spend time on the rides.
Oregon Brewer's Festival – Perfect for both craft beer and cider lovers, this festival, which celebrates local brewers, takes place at the end of July.
