Utah is peak RV territory — Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef are all within driving distance of each other. What you need in a rental depends largely on what kind of parks you want to visit and how off the beaten path you plan to go.

Utah RV Rental Prices

The average rental runs about $165/night, with travel trailers starting around $110/night and Class A motorhomes typically running $230/night or more.

A 22-foot Class B camping van for $160 a night or a Class C motorhome for $170 a night is excellent for camping with a couple.

A larger group of eight people or more could get a 32-foot travel trailer for $125 a night or a 32.5-foot fifth wheel for $140 a night.

Comparing RV Rentals Near Utah

With some decent clearance and tires on your RV, thousands of miles of roads can be explored in this red rock state full of dinosaur tracks, gemstones and sandstone wonders. Or, you can plan your trip around accessible parks and a vehicle with amenities.

  • AC and awnings: Bring your own shade, stay hydrated and make sure your vehicle's systems are all working properly so you can stay cool. Schedule outdoor activities for early morning and plan for in-rig downtime midday. Better yet, avoid the state altogether in summer and come for the quieter, cool winters.

  • Clearance: Higher clearance means you can get access to off-the-beaten path campsites within public lands and parks.

  • A tow vehicle setup can avoid clearance issues. The roads into Canyonlands' Needles District, the Capitol Reef backcountry, and many trailheads around Bryce Canyon are either restricted to shorter vehicles or are significantly more comfortable to navigate in a standard truck. Unhitch at camp and drive the tow vehicle for most canyon exploring.

  • Pickup spots: The major airport is Salt Lake City, and RVShare has hundreds of rentals in the area. Arrange for delivery directly after your flight so you can get to Park City, Moab, Canyonlands or St George in just a few hours.

  • Zion's Watchman Campground has a 30-foot limit on most sites. Watchman is the only hookup campground inside Zion National Park and it fills months in advance. Sites cap at 30 feet on most loops. The South Campground (no hookups) is slightly more flexible on length. A Class C or mid-size travel trailer is the right call for camping inside the park.

What to Know About Park Access With an RV in Utah

Utah's Mighty 5 parks each have distinct reservation systems and access requirements. Manage them all before your trip.

  • Each of Utah's national parks has a separate reservation system and requirements. Zion (Watchman), Bryce Canyon (North Campground), Arches (Devils Garden), and Capitol Reef (Fruita) all book through Recreation.gov — but timed-entry permits, vehicle reservations, and shuttle requirements vary by park. Read the current requirements on each park's NPS page before you book anything else.

  • Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is shuttle-only from spring through fall. Private vehicles are not permitted on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive during peak season. The free NPS shuttle runs from the Visitor Center to all major trailheads. Your RV stays at Watchman or South Campground; you ride the shuttle.

  • Bryce Canyon rim campgrounds sit at 8,000+ feet. Temperatures at Bryce run 20–30°F cooler than the canyon floors below. Even in summer, nights can drop into the 40s. Confirm your unit's heating capability if traveling spring or fall.

  • Water is scarce between park towns. Services between Bryce, Capitol Reef, and Canyonlands are limited. Fill fresh water and dump tanks at every opportunity. Torrey (near Capitol Reef) and Moab (Arches/Canyonlands gateway) are the primary service towns for southern Utah itineraries.

RV Dump Stations in Utah

Magna Wastewater Treatment Plant offers a free dump station for all users from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. Many Maverick gas stations across the state also offer free dump stations available 24/7.

Popular RV Storage Facilities in Utah

Summit Storage has covered indoor RV storage with parking spaces of between 30 and 40 feet. Its operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Sunday. Armor Storage of Nibley has parking spaces for different sizes of RVs, with some spaces reaching up to 50 feet. They offer open parking for $40 a month, or you could opt for closed parking for $220 a month.

Best National Parks in Utah

Capitol Reef National Park is the best place for adventure because there are rocks, cliffs, domes, canyons, unique rock formations, and bridges. It is also home to the famous Waterpocket fold. The national park is also surrounded by landmarks such as Cathedral Valley, Chimney Rock Pillar, and the Hickman Bridge Arch.

Canyonlands National Park is the largest among the five national parks in Utah. It has beautifully colored desert landscapes and remarkable views that attract visitors from all over. Inside the Horseshoe Canyon are Native American rock paintings that give you a glimpse into historical times.

Arches National Park offers you the chance to explore the most well-photographed places in the U.S. Within 100 square miles, over 2,000 natural sandstone arches cover the area. Visitors can also explore bars, shops, restaurants, and cultural pursuits. Also, the Museum of Moab and the Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage are must-visit locations.

Popular State Parks in Utah

Huntington State Park is a common ground for migratory bird species. Since it is a warm water reservoir, it is the perfect area for outdoor activities. Also, it offers fishing opportunities. Common fish species include the largemouth bass and blue gill.

Green River State Park is a famous starting point for many river-rafting adventures, offering the chance to explore more than 120 miles. Also, the park sits near attractions like Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park.

Palisade State Park is the ideal place for electric or non-motorized boating activities, swimming, and fishing. Common fish in the area are trout and goldfish. If you want to hike, you could follow the trails around the lake or go deeper into the hillside. Also, the park is close to the Arapeen OHW Trail.

Another adventurous trip is driving along the Dinosaur Prehistoric Highway that starts and ends in Vernal. The route is 512 miles and could take three days to complete. During the trip, you will witness fossils and footprints buried in desert cliffs and rocky outcroppings.
