Hogle Zoo
Also in Salt Lake City is Hogle Zoo, which is home to over 800 animals. Visitors to the 42-acre park can visit diverse and unique exhibits like an Asian highlands village with various types of leopards, an African savannah featuring zebras and giraffes, the Elephant Encounter (no explanation needed), and polar bears in Rocky Shores. The Zoofari Express train takes visitors around by rail, and in the summer months, bring your swimsuit and a towel for some good wet fun at the zoo’s Lighthouse Point Splash Zone. Red Butte Garden and Arboretum

Mountain Shadows RV Park
Just south of West Valley City in Draper is this park that’s frequently named best in the mountain west. Full hookups are the norm, the amenities are plentiful (game room, restrooms, jacuzzi, laundry, free wifi, a playground, and more), but the best part is the scenery. Stay the night, and you’ll see why it’s called Mountain Shadows.
Cherry Hill Camping Resort
In Kaysville, just north of West Valley City, is where you’ll find Cherry Hill Water Park and its neighboring Camping Resort. There are 180 RV sites, and full hookups are available. The amenities specifically for campers aren’t as robust as some other sites, but then again, you’re right there at Cherry Hill, where you can enjoy the playground, water park, mini golf, jungle maze, aeroball, jungle boats, and so much more.
Tanners Flat Campground
Head southeast out of West Valley City to the Tanners Flat Campground. It’s located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, which has an elevation of over 7000 feet. The campsite itself is not as updated as some of the more upscale RV parks (no hookups or modern conveniences are really available), but that’s a small price to pay for crisp mountain air, great hiking and camping, and amazing views. If you want to park your RV in a more rustic setting, this is the place.
Events
Utah Grizzlies at the Maverick Center
Whether you’re a die-hard hockey fan or just enjoy going to sporting events with a crowd, a Utah Grizzlies game is a great night (or day) out with the family. It’s ECHL hockey, so it’s the minors, but it’s still exciting, with all of the fast plays, big goals, and hard hits of the NHL. Catch an up and coming star and root along with the local crowd. The season runs from mid-October through the beginning of April, and it’s not usually hard to get tickets just before a game.
WestFest
Head to West Valley City’s Centennial Park in mid-June for WestFest, the city’s big celebration of itself! It’s a real carnival atmosphere, with everything you’d expect from a big fair (rides, food, games, and the like), plus 5k and 10k fun runs, a symphony concert, a movie under the stars, fireworks, and much more.
