Present-day Los Banos was a Mexican land grant in the 1840s. The first white settler, Uriah Wood, arrived in the area in 1859 and constructed a small cabin as his residence. Later, other settlers began moving to the region to establish homes and businesses. The town was soon identified as a trading center for various products. The arrival of a railroad opened the area to other regions, resulting in increased economic activities and population growth. Los Banos received its post office in 1873.
