Dracut is a suburban town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. According to the latest census, it is home to just over 32,500 people. The area's first inhabitants were the Augumtoocooke people. The Augumtoocooke fished the fruitful Merrimack River and nearby salt marshes until Europeans arrived in the late 16th century. The town was originally sold to an English settler by the name of Captain John Evered. However, after a series of trades, it landed in the hands of another settler. His name was Edward Colburn. For years, the city functioned as a mere extension of the neighboring town of Chelmsford. However, after continued clashes with neighboring Indian tribes, residents of Dracut demanded they take things into their own hands.
