Cortez SRMA

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a federal government agency responsible for administering public land. With more than 850 separate sites around the country, the BLM-protected areas feature a huge variety of ecosystems, geographical attributes, and attractions. Many of these sites are popular destinations for campers, hikers, and all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts.

Located in southwestern Colorado, one location administered by the BLM is the Cortez Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA). Found only a few miles north of Mesa Verde National Park, this stretch of land offers opportunities for several forms of outdoor recreation. The area's biggest attraction is the popular Phil's World mountain biking trail system, which is listed as one of the BLM's 20 premier mountain biking destinations. BLM areas are scattered all over the western United States; with a quick search for "BLM camping near me," you can see which ones are located near you.
