Bedrock Recreation Site

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

The Bureau of Land Management, or BLM, is a government agency that administers various public sites around the country. These natural areas include campgrounds, nature trails, day-use areas, wilderness areas, and other kinds of sites. Many of the locations offer opportunities for recreational activities like hiking, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and others. Additionally, some contain unique landmarks and impressive geographical features. Travelers from all over make their way to these BLM-protected sites to partake in BLM camping and connect with the natural world. If you'd like to see some of these places for yourself, search online for "BLM camping near me," and discover the possibilities in your region.

The Bedrock Recreation Site, situated in western Colorado, is one of over 800 BLM sites. The site can be used for primitive camping, and there are also nearby opportunities for fishing, hiking, rafting, and other activities. The area is known for its remote location, scenic views, and peaceful atmosphere.

Fishing and BoatingFishing and Boating

The Bedrock Recreation Site is located adjacent to the Dolores River, which is known as an excellent fishing destination. The stream is inhabited by brown, cutthroat, rainbow, and cutbow trout, and because of the remote location, populations tend to be very large. The river provides great opportunities for rafting, kayaking, and canoeing as well, and there's even a boat ramp located at the BLM site.

ClimbingClimbing

If you're willing to travel a bit north or east of the Bedrock Recreation Site, there are several climbing opportunities within the region. One good option is to head north to the McInnis Canyons area, where you'll find routes for both traditional and aid climbing. Two of the popular rock-climbing spots in the area are Devil's Canyon and Kodel's Canyon. There, the aid routes are A1 and C1+ difficulty, and the traditional route is 5.8.

Wildlife ViewingWildlife Viewing

If you're a wildlife enthusiast, you'll find good opportunities to observe cool animals in the nearby Uncompahgre National Forest. If you explore the forest's beautiful trails, you'll have a good chance of seeing elk, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, Canada lynx, black bears, pine marten, mountain lions, moose, and a variety of smaller mammals. If you prefer bird-watching, some of the avian species to watch for include Mexican spotted owls, boreal owls, bald eagles, and peregrine falcons.

Picnicking

Aside from the actual food, the Bedrock Recreation Site provides everything you'll need for a fantastic picnic. The BLM site features cabanas with tables and grills, meaning you can even take the time to cook up a delicious lunch. Once you're ready to eat, the site will make for a tranquil setting to enjoy your picnic.

Although there's a limited amount of space at the site, you can partake in BLM RV camping at the Bedrock Recreation Site. Unlike most established campgrounds, the site is more of a free-for-all space to stake out your own campsite. There are no RV hookups or modern amenities provided. There also aren't any other nearby Bureau of Land Management campgrounds where you can stay, but there are a few RV parks within a short distance. If you head east to the Naturita, CO area, you could stay at the Rimrocker Adventures RV Park or CampV, also campground.
