Smith Mountain Lake was formed in 1960 and today it's the second-largest freshwater lake in Virginia. Inside Smith Mountain Lake State Park, you can explore the sites on 13 hiking trails that meander through the hardwood forest, extraordinary vistas, pine trees, and secluded coves. The park features a 500-foot beach with lifeguarded swimming from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Boat fishing is a popular activity on the lake and is perfect for catching smallmouth bass, catfish, striped bass, and largemouth bass. How to Get to
Smith Mountain Lake State Park

If you're traveling from the city of Huddleston, you'll want to head southwest on State Route 626 towards State Route 920 for 8.8 miles. Make a right onto Road 888, and follow signs to the state park.
