Settlers first arrived in the Prosper area around 1846. They were looking to grow cotton and were attracted to the abundance of black fertile soil. Between the years 1850 and 1902, the town was split into two settlements. The Rock Hill community was located just two miles south of present-day Prosper, and Richland was about one mile north of the area. When the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad was established in 1902, the communities emerged to form what is now known as Prosper, Texas. The town was officially incorporated in 1914. At the time, the population included 500 residents. Today, Prosper boasts nearly 26,000 residents.
