North Central Florida

When people talk about North Central Florida, they’re referring specifically to the middle of the Florida Panhandle, but what holds true for this part of the state also holds true for the rest of the panhandle as well. Unlike much of the rest of Florida, this area isn’t built up heavily with tourist attractions and theme parks. It also has park as well as are nature preserves and the like. If you’re looking for a theme park vacation, this probably isn’t the spot for you, but if you’d like to get away from it all, you’ll find plenty to do here.

Popular Tourist Attractions

The gardens were first planted in 1923 by the man whose name the park now bears. It is considered to be a masterpiece of floral architecture and is a photographer’s delight. Endless opportunities for hiking, swimming, fishing and canoeing can be enjoyed in this park. The park does not allow motorized boats of any kind, so be advised.

A gorgeous destination that lies a bit off the beaten path, Apalachicola National Forest is where you will find some of the best fishing in the state, as well as hunting, camping, mountain biking/hiking, and even horseback riding opportunities. Because of its seclusion, it’s the perfect getaway for those looking for a bit of solitude and reflection.

Two words: Whitewater rafting. This park features the biggest and best rapids in the state, and if you’ve never been to Big Shoals State Park, you simply don’t know what you’re missing out on. If you are not into Whitewater rafting, you can still enjoy taking a hike, snapping pictures, fishing.

Campgrounds in North Central Florida

Even non-RV folks will appreciate the Willow Pond Plantation. Cabin rentals are available here, and Willow Pond is a vacation destination in its own right. You can spend an entire vacation adventure in an RV rental in North Central, FL in the park, and never leave the grounds. It’s picturesque and full service. Even better, it’s conveniently located just off of I-10 and just off the Florida-George parkway. If you’re looking for a self-contained vacation adventure, then this is probably your campground of choice.

I mean, c’mon, who wouldn’t be at least a little bit intrigued by a place called Convict Springs? A gorgeous campground with 1500 feet of shoreline on the Suwannee River, you’ll find full hook-ups and amenities for an RV rental in North Central, Florida. Like the Willow Pond Plantation, they have cabins and A-Frame rentals, and allow primitive campsites. Canoe and Kayak rentals and guided tours are available. It also has an excellent restaurant called Grandma Susie’s Cookin’ Shack on-site which is open on weekends for lunch and dinner. Did we mention they’re pet friendly too? This one’s got everything you’re looking for.

This is the ideal vacation destination if you have your kids or grandkids with you. As the name suggests, it’s custom made for children of all ages, with a calendar of events that keeps things interesting all year long. There are plenty of hiking, fishing, and photography opportunities for the adults too. There are no boring moments in Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Camp.

Events

Gainesville offers your best opportunity for fun events in the North Central Florida region.  A couple of the more colorful ones are detailed below.

The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire

A weeklong festival celebrating all things Medieval and Renaissance! From ancient glass blowing techniques to blacksmithing how-tos and more, you can learn an amazing amount at this festival and have a great time doing so.

The Heart of Florida Asian Festival

If the medieval scenes aren’t for you, and let’s face it, it’s not for everyone, come in October to check out the Asian Festival. There’s nothing else quite like it anywhere in Florida or beyond. Get a taste of the Orient in more ways than one, with street vendors and food galore. There’s enough here to keep food and culture fans happy!

Conclusion
