Nearby National Parks

Hot Springs National Park

There is not really a national park on this Houston to Oklahoma City RV road trip, but if you would like to visit one without going too far off course, then Hot Springs National Park is the closest. You will need to take I-30 east from Dallas to get to this park. Once you are at Hot Springs National Park, you will be able to hike some trails to get a fantastic view of the surrounding area. This is a place for relaxation, so take some time to soak in the thermal springs to soothe your body and your soul before you continue on your RV trip.

Huntsville State Park

Huntsville State Park is located off of I-45, so it is a stop that should be easy for you to make on this road trip. If you do not have a boat that you can use to go out on the water, kayaks and canoes can be rented inside of Huntsville State Park.

Fort Boggy State Park

This park is more than 1,800 acres, so there is a lot of ground to explore. There are 3.5 miles of trails that you can hike or bike on. Two miles go through the woods, while the other 1.5 miles circle the lake. There is a pier that you can fish from, or you can take a boat out on the water for a more immersive day of fishing.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park

Ray Roberts Lake State Park is only about 60 miles from Dallas. This is another park with a large lake, so water activities like fishing, boating, and swimming can be enjoyed during your visit. If you prefer hiking, there are 29 miles of trails in the park that you can explore on foot and another 12 miles reserved for bikers and those riding on horseback to enjoy. 

Lake Murray State Park

Lake Murray State Park, which is located in Oklahoma, is one of the last state parks that you will visit during this trip. The park is quite large; in fact, it is more than 12,500 acres. The lake itself is 5,700 acres, so it is a great place to go fishing, boating, or enjoy other water activities. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, wave runners, and more are available to rent. You can also hike, go horseback riding, play a round of golf, take a hayride, and more in the park. There are also volleyball nets, softball fields, tennis courts, and baseball diamonds that you can enjoy with friends.

Mercer Botanic Gardens

Mercer Botanic Gardens is 250 acres of land filled with lovely gardens along Cypress Creek. The gardens were named after Thelma and Charles Mercer, and since the land was theirs, it has been expanded to include several hiking trails, a picnic area, and a butterfly house. The property is well-maintained, and the gardens offer several kinds of flowers, including pink camellias, camphor daisies, and orchids. Bring your binoculars because birds love to visit these gardens, too.

Mandalay Canal Walk at Las Colinas

If you enjoy walking through cities, you will want to visit the Mandalay Canal Walk at Las Colinas during this road trip from Houston to Oklahoma City. If you want to explore all that Conroe has to offer fully, find a campground nearby to stay at. Country Place RV Park is located right in Conroe near the Sam Houston National Forest, so if you plan on exploring the area, this may be a good place to consider. Hidden Oaks RV Park is good for families traveling with kids and pets. Find a dump station in this part of Texas so that you can offload your gray and black wastewater before continuing with your trip.

Dallas, Texas
