Located 6 miles southwest from downtown Huntsville off Interstate 45, Huntsville State Park is filled with raccoons, moles, white-tailed deer, and eastern gray squirrels. Largemouth bass, crappie, and alligators live in Lake Raven, which serves as the park's centerpiece. The park has over 250 species of birds that can be observed at the bird blind, which overlooks the lake and forest. It's filled with majestic trees and magnificent beauty. Since Huntsville State Park is right on the western edge of East Texas, about 65 miles north of Houston, the area gets pretty hot and humid for much of the year.

With 21 miles of trails in Huntsville State Park, you can lose yourself among the majestic trees and natural beauty. Here, you can have a picnic, swim, study nature, and go bicycling. Located in Conroe near The Woodlands and 22 miles from Huntsville State Park, 7 Acre Wood is filled with fun outdoor activities for the whole family. The playground has slides, a gigantic sandbox, swings, and a play town that both children and adults will love. The petting zoo is terrific for all ages, with ponies, donkeys, ducks, llamas, deer, a cow, and goats. On weekends, they offer pony rides that cost from $75 and up.

Just 12 miles outside Huntsville State Park, the Texas Prison Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Texas prisoners. Sam Houston National Forest
Sam Houston National Forest is one of the four National Forests in Texas. Located 12 miles from Huntsville State Park, this forest spans over 163,000 acres that stretch across Cleveland, Richards, Conroe, and Huntsville.
