Love folklife? Then the Kutztown Folk Festival is a must-visit! Located in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, it’s the oldest, continuously operated folklife festival in America. The nine-day festival began in 1950, and has been drawing visitors from all over the world since. Visitors experience music, entertainment, the largest quilt sale in America and much more. This festival has been featured twice in National Geographic and was once called “one of the most unique festivals on the East coast” by the Washington Post. It’s a fun experience that all ages are sure to love!

July 1-4 and July 7: 10am – 6pm

There is truly something for every member of your family to enjoy at the Kutztown Folk Festival. From the world-famous quilt barn to arts and crafts and of course a delicious meal, there is something for everyone. Some of the attractions and events include:

Quilts: The world-famous quilt barn is one of the Kutztown Folk Festival’s most popular attractions, and it features over 2,500 traditional handmade quilts and wall hangings, both on display and for sale. The fully stocked quilt shop sells hard-to-find items and supplies, there are quilting bees, hands-on demonstrations, a quilt auction and much more. For more information on quilt events, click here.

Crafts: Over 200 folk artists and craftsmen are demonstrating and showcasing their pieces. The Kutztown Folk Festival is one of the largest gatherings of traditional craftsmen in the country! A sampling of the crafts and folk art that can be seen at the festival include: weaving, woodcarving, soapmaking, furniture, pottery, redware, metalworking, blacksmithing, weaving and much more. Food: If you love Pennsylvania Dutch food, you are in for a treat. The Kutztown Folk Festival has two restaurants serving full-course Pennsylvania Dutch meals, a variety of homemade soups and sandwiches and classic festival favorites such as sausage, pot pie, funnel cakes, shoo-fly pie and apple dumplings. For generations, families have also loved the 19th century bread oven, one of the oldest in Pennsylvania, where bread is baked daily. Visitors can observe the baking process and then purchase bread to bring home and enjoy!

Fun and Entertainment: There is something for everyone when it comes to entertainment at the festival. From live 19th century “impromptu” brass bands to the last remaining horse-powered carousel in the country and “the Hokiest Parade in America,” the Folk Festival Fourth of July parade, everyone in your family is sure to find something they love. Plus, for those who are interested in folklore and history, there are seminars on dialect, traditions and other areas of interest of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Parking on the fairgrounds is available, and is free.  


Kutztown Folk Festival tickets can be purchased online, but please note that those purchased online will be mailed to your billing or shipping address, so purchase online in advance. Tickets are available at the walk-in gate as well. The gate at 225 North Whiteoak Street will accept Visa and MasterCard, but all other gates accept cash only.

Admission prices are as follows:

Adults: $14.00

Seniors (55+): $13.00

Students (13-17): $5.00

Children 12 and under: Free

A weekly pass is $24 and there is a Friday night special of a $5 ticket after 4pm.
