Often called the Last Frontier, there are many wonderful opportunities to luxury camp in Alaska. Many of the state’s luxury campgrounds are centered around Fairbanks and Anchorage because they are jumping-off points to explore areas only available by boat or by airplane. Other luxury campgrounds in Alaska are along the Yukon Highway, which is a beautifully rugged area to explore. Many choose a summertime Alaska camping vacation to escape the heat found in other parts of the country. Other visitors choose to head to the state’s national parks that are accessible by highways, like Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Wrangell St. Elias National Park

Luxury RV Parks in Alaska

Moose River Resort

Rejuvenate your soul by soaking in the hot tub while observing the beautiful mountain scenery at Moose River Resort near Sterling. Listen to the sound of the Moose River bubbling by as you fish for trout. The campground’s staff will gladly clean and smoke them for you to transport back home. You will love the spacious setting of this campground as it has only four sites that are widely spaced apart.

River’s Edge RV Park

You will love the garden-like setting of River’s Edge RV Park near Fairbanks. Settle back into the serene environment at this campground on the Chena River. If you have taken your RV into some of Alaska’s rugged country or have driven it to Alaska, this is an excellent opportunity to get it clean as River’s Edge has an RV wash station. Dog owners will appreciate the dog walk at this park. The river is a great place to go fishing, but if the fish won the daily battle by getting away, enjoy a meal at the Alaskan Grill.

Denali Grizzly Bear Resort

Located very near Denali National Park, Denali Grizzly Bear Resort is a great place to stay if you plan on exploring the park. This spot for luxury camping in Alaska offers you the chance to prepare your meals in the centrally located outdoor cooking area, but it also offers a food truck court. The staff will gladly arrange for you to connect with local experts because they know the right hiking, ATV riding, or horseback riding experts to send you with to have a marvelous time. They can also arrange helicopters and airplane tours of the area. While you are likely to see grizzly bears, you are almost sure to see Dall sheep.

Glacier Nalu

Rent a bike from the Glacier Nalu office to explore Alaska’s capital city of Juneau, or rent a kayak or paddleboard to play on the nearby waters. This campground’s staff often lead tours of Mendenhall Glacier, which is about 1.5 miles long and over 100 feet high. Once you return to this luxury RV campground, prepare a meal in the outdoor kitchen at the gazebo.

Fox Run Lodge and Campground

Enjoy soaking in the view of Matanuska Lake when staying at Fox Run Lodge and Campground near Palmer. Stroll through the art gallery filled with sculptures by Timothy Manning, and enjoy seeing paintings and photos done by local artists. Then, head to the gift shop, where you will find lots of artwork done by artists who the owners know live in the area. State officials frequently stock the lake with several trout species and grayling, so bring your fishing gear.

Alaskan Angler RV Park

If you are visiting Ninilchik or other Kenai Peninsula locations, stay at the Alaskan Anglers RV Park. The experts at this luxury RV park in Alaska lead guided salmon and halibut fishing expeditions. If you want to try fishing on your own, Alaskan Anglers also rents fishing and clam shovels. You can easily protect yourself from the elements by renting rain gear from them. When you are ready to kick back, go to the office where a friendly game is usually occurring.

Where to Luxury Camp in Alaska

There are three areas of the state that are very popular with people looking for luxury RV Parks in Alaska. The areas around Anchorage and Fairbanks are popular because they are great spots to catch flights to more remote areas. Anchorage is the biggest city in the state, and you can find many attractions to explore there. The second is the area around Denali National Park, which is a must-see for many visiting the state because of its grizzly bears and Mount Denali. The third is the southwest Alaska area, including Bristol Bay and Kodiak Island, because of the great opportunities to see marine wildlife and go kayaking.

Luxury RV Camping in Alaska

Now that you know where to find luxury RV camping in Alaska, check with the individual campgrounds to see when each one is open. While you can find year-round opportunities to go camping in Alaska, many campgrounds open in the late spring and close in the fall.

It is essential to think about what you plan to wear when camping in Alaska. Winters can be brutal, so consider dressing in layers with an item made of natural fiber against your skin. Summer mornings and evenings often are chilly, so dressing in removable layers helps you stay comfortable throughout the day.
