BLM camping sites are open to the public and offer a variety of amenities, including picnic tables, fire pits, and restrooms. Some of these campsites require reservations. Hog Springs Recreation Area is located near the city of Moab. Hog Springs Recreation Area is mainly set aside for picnicking but has a trail nearby and is centrally located to other recreation areas. The area is also near a couple of National Parks, including Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Visitors to the Hog Springs Recreation Area can also explore the recreational amenities that are at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area which is nearby. There you can do boating, fishing, and hike a variety of trails there. Hog Springs Trail

Hog Springs Trail is located in the heart of Hog Springs State Park and is approximately three miles long. The trail is considered to be moderately difficult with a few areas that are more challenging, but overall, it is a great place to hike, bike, or even run. The scenery along the Hog Springs Trail is simply stunning. The trail leads you to a magnificent waterfall and natural pool.

Hog Springs Recreational Area is a skip and a hop away from Glen Canyon Recreational Area, where there are boating and fishing activities available. Some of these activities include fishing for trout, bass, and catfish in Dirty Devil River, boating on Glen Lake, and canoeing or kayaking down the river.

Rock climbing can be done at Big Water Boulders and Big Ben Boudering Area, which are a couple of hours northeast of the Hog Springs Recreational Aera. Big Water Boulders offers a scenic view, but the climbing is rated as challenging. Big Bend Bouldering Area is an area located alongside route 128 and offers easy access to a variety of boulders for climbers of all ages and climbing experiences. Utah offers a variety of rock climbing locations; however, most are several hours away from the Hog Springs Recreational Area.

Wildlife ViewingWildlife Viewing

Opportunities to view wildlife are plentiful if you take the trail that starts just between the two picnic pavilions located in the main area of Hog Springs Recreational Area. You can see wildlife such as deer, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, pronghorn, coyotes, bobcats, cougars, and bears. Due to the weather, many of these animals only appear around night.

Hog Springs Recreation Area is a picnic area. The area has picnic tables that are covered by pavillions and offer wonderful views of the Henry Mountains. The area is located right across the way from Glen Canyon Recreation Area. Its convenience to all of the camping and outdoor activities this area offers makes Hog Springs Recreation Area a great spot to take an afternoon picnic.

Duke's Slickrock Campground is a BLM RV camping site located 15 miles from the Hog Springs Recreational Area of Utah. This campground has a variety of amenities, including a picnic area, a fire pit, water and electricity, as well as a dump station. There are also a number of hiking trails in the area, making it easy to explore the surrounding landscape. You can also check out Glen Canyon Campground. The campground is situated on the banks of the Colorado River and offers stunning views of the river and canyon. This Bureau of Land Management campground has a total of 50 campsites, each of which is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground also has restrooms and showers, and a dump station making it a great spot for BLM RV Camping.

Primitive camping at Hite Marina Campground is free. While there are RV parking and hookups, there are no water facilities or potable water. Primitive camping is allowed along the shorelines and so are boating activities; however, there the boat ramps are primitive and not paved. There are no hookups or amenities, but there is a nice view of the lake. The campsites are first-come, first-served, so it's best to arrive early if you want to snag a spot. There is a 14-day limit for stays. Some Bureau of Land Management free camping sites may require permits.

Planning your Hog Springs Recreation Area BLM trip

Plan your route in advance. Check the department of transportation website for the state to check for closures or detours. Check the local campsites that you are considering for access, fees, and permit requirements. Pack plenty of food and water, as well as snacks and drinks for the drive. Make note of the closest place to re-stock on supplies that you missed. Bring a first-aid kit, sunscreen, insect repellent, and anything else you might need to stay comfortable during your trip. Make sure to pack all of your camping gear, including a tent, sleeping bags, and camp chairs.

The address is 380 South 100 West Hanksville, UT 84734. To get there from Salina, UT, head south on N State St toward E Main St for 1.8 miles. Then turn left to merge onto I-70 E/US-50 E toward Green River for 92 miles. After that, take exit 149 to merge onto UT-24 W toward Hanksville for 43.9 mi. Finally, turn left onto UT-95 S and the destination will be on the right.
