BLM Camping

Wild Rogue Wilderness

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

Beautiful, untouched areas of public lands, BLM sites are designed to allow visitors to explore locations in their most natural state. These public lands are often undeveloped and may have strict regulations concerning their use. Many sites offer camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and other recreation activities. Explore BLM sites by searching for "BLM camping near me."

The Wild Rogue Wilderness spans 35,806 acres. It’s located north of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, and the Wild and Scenic Rogue River runs through the wilderness area. About 27,111 acres of the wilderness are Forest Service lands, while the remainder is BLM land. Both the wilderness and the river offer beautiful views, many recreational activity opportunities, and the chance to spot many animal species.

Planning your Wild Rogue Wilderness BLM trip

The Wild Rogue Wilderness is home to a range of wildlife, including somewhat dangerous animals such as bears and rattlesnakes. Always stay alert to your surroundings, and if you do see a wild animal, observe it from a distance. In areas with bears, be sure to secure your food or bait supplies. Ticks, mosquitos, and yellowjackets are also present during the warmer months, so you may want to carry bug repellant and check yourself and any children or pets nightly for bites.

The Wild Rogue Wilderness features many steep cliffs along the Wild and Scenic Rogue River, and the area is relatively remote. For these reasons, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the terrain, prepare for inclement weather, and carry plenty of emergency supplies. Many of the trailheads are unmarked, so it's always beneficial to carry a map and compass. Before you head out on your trip, check out our blog for all you need to know about BLM camping.

Leave No Trace Leaf

Leave No Trace principles help to ensure that Bureau of Land Management campgrounds and sites such as the Wild Rogue Wilderness remain untouched and protected. It's always important to stay on the trails as much as possible. Motorized vehicles, including dirt bikes, OHVs, motorboats, and bicycles, are not permitted within the wilderness except in specially designated areas. As you enjoy the area, collect your trash and dispose of it properly. Only camp on durable surfaces and only make fires in controlled areas, such as fire pits or rings. Respect the native wildlife, including plants, and be courteous to other campers and hikers.
