Mule Creek Trail

The Mule Creek Trail begins in the Wild Rogue Wilderness, climbing 3,000 feet. This trail passes by the East Fork Fork Mule Creek Canyon and Mule Creek. A short drive from Gold Beach, a hike or bike ride on this trail is a great way to experience the natural wonders of this area. Length: 6.5 miles Intensity: Moderate

Little Grayback Trail

Little Grayback Trail is one of the most popular trails in the region for mountain bikers. With an elevation gain of 3,375 feet and relatively few hikers or bikers, many find this trail a peaceful place to visit. Stunning mountain views make this trail worth the effort. Fishing and BoatingFishing and Boating

The Rogue River, near the trail, is a prime location for rafting and motor boating. Fly fishing is popular in areas further into the canyon, with some of the best fishing available in the early morning. Salmon is the most popular fish to catch in this area, but you may also find rainbow and cutthroat trout, steelhead, and northern pike.

River otters, coyotes, black bears, raccoons, beavers, and mule deer are species that you might spot along or near the trail. Birds of prey, such as bald eagles, make frequent appearances. Other types of birds that you may see include hummingbirds.

Tucker Flat Campground along the Mule Creek Trail has picnic tables available. Visitors enjoying fishing on the river or hiking may also picnic, despite tables only being on one part of the trail. Anyone who wants to picnic at a managed park will be most likely to find additional options in Gold Beach.

Non-hosted, no-fee camping is available at the nearby Tucker Flat Campground, however, the number of campsites available is limited to six. Dispersed camping is permitted in most Oregon BLM areas. The sites are on a first-come, first-served basis, without potable water or RV hookups. Some spots along State Highway 199 or rest stops off I-5 are good places to stop your RV for the night. In most areas on the Mule Creek Trail, dispersed camping is primitive tent camping. If you decide to boat down Mule Creek, you will be able to camp with a tent along the creek.

Planning your Mule Creek Trail BLM trip

When you're planning an RV trip in Oregon, remember that amenities at different locations may vary. You will have the easiest time finding an RV park that meets your needs by choosing one in a medium-sized or bigger city. Grants Pass, OR is only 47 miles from the Mule Creek Trail, giving you plenty of options. Packing clothing suitable for rainy weather is always a good idea because of how much rain the state sees. Insect repellant is a necessity, especially if much of your time will be spent near the creek. Optimal periods for hiking the trail are spring and fall. If you hike there in summer, be prepared for high temperatures, which can soar up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, particularly on south-facing slopes. Mule Creek Trail visitors, per BLM regulations, must clean up after themselves to keep this area as beautiful and pristine as possible. If you have any trash, pack it out when you leave. Any biological waste should be buried a minimum of 200 ft from the creek or any other water. Always show respect for wildlife by remembering that these areas are their habitats, and they should not be harmed, harassed, or removed from the area. Start your journey to Mule Creek Trail in Golden Beach, OR. From State Road (SR) 101, take County Road 595 east to Forest Service Road 33. Continue on FS 33 to FS 3310. From there, take FS Road 3340 northwest until it connects to FS 33. When you see the intersection with FS Road 3348, turn right. Continue on this road to Buck Creek Campground. Turn right on FS 5520, right near the campground. FS 5520 will take you right to the trailhead.
