Baylor Peak From Aguirre Springs

This out-and-back trail near Las Cruces will take about four hours to complete. The Baylor Peak trail is among the highest points in the Organ Mountains, giving you plenty of breathtaking views along the way. You can also see some of the colorful wildflowers that bloom in the spring. Length: 5.5 miles Intensity: Challenging

Indian Hollow Trail

Enjoy a pleasant hike through the Organ Mountains wilderness on this scenic out-and-back trail. As you go through the foothills, you will see plenty of wildlife, including deer and lizards. It is open year-round and takes 3.5 hours to complete. Length: 4.97 miles Intensity: Challenging

Pine Tree Trail

This loop trail will take 2.5 hours to complete. Along the way, you will see Piglet falls and plenty of varied vegetation. Two campsites near the trailhead make it a great choice for overnight camping. Length: 4.6 miles Intensity: Moderately challenging

Baylor Pass National Recreation Trail

This route is an out-and-back trail that will take 5.75 hours to complete. It is known for its abundance of wildflowers and spectacular views of the Organ Mountains from high elevations. Length: 11.3 miles Intensity: Challenging

The nearby Rio Grande river is a great place for fishing. The area is known for its brown trout, rainbow trout, and catfish. There are numerous fishing spots along the river and several boat ramps. Visitors can also bring non-motorized boats to explore the waters in the area.

The Wedge

This rock-climbing spot in the Organ Mountains is one of the most popular in the area. It offers technical and challenging routes for experienced climbers and beginners. It has an elevation of 8,199 feet and is accessible year-round.

Sugarloaf Peak

This peak is located in the Organ Mountains and is an excellent spot for rock climbing. It rises 8,150 feet and resembles a white tooth. It is also a great spot to enjoy the views of the surrounding valley.

The Aguirre Spring Campground is a great destination for wildlife viewing. The area is home to various species, including deer, elk, coyotes, foxes, and wild turkeys. You may also spot the abundant birdlife in the area, including hawks, eagles, woodpeckers, and a variety of songbirds. You cannot feed the wildlife, so keep your distance while observing them.

Picnicking

The campground has several designated picnic areas that offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. You can choose to have a quiet lunch or dinner with your family and friends or use the picnic tables to plan a team-building activity. Group Picnic Area can accommodate up to 50 people, and picnic tables are provided. The Trailhead Picnic area at Pine Tree Trailhead has grills and picnic tables.

BLM RV camping at Aguirre Springs Campground is possible. The campground has 55 campsites for either tent or RV camping and at a cost of $7. Two group sites are also available at a cost of $50. The paths at this campground are ADA-accessible. You'll enjoy a few amenities here, including a dump station, potable water, and fire rings to campers. Sunny Acres RV Park is another option for RV camping near Aguirre Springs Campground, with 92 sites with full hookups.

The Organ Mountains have several free camping spots. These include the Aguirre Springs, University Peak, and Back Road campgrounds. These offer spectacular views of the surrounding scenery and are great for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing.
