Blackbear Campground is a nearby RV park that provides a beautiful environment as well as affordable rates. Chief Logan State Park

Take time to visit the Chief Logan Museum, which is located within the park. This museum commemorates the life and legacy of the indigenous Mingo people and their leader, Chief Logan, who lived in the area around the time of the Revolutionary War. A C & O Kanawha class steam locomotive is also on permanent display at the park, shedding light on the area's history as part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroads. Inside Chief Logan State Park

The Liz Spurlock Amphitheater routinely hosts outdoor dramas, such as the historical "The Aracoma Story," during the summer months. Many visitors of the state park come to view wildlife such as red-shouldered hawks, black bears, wild boar, barred owls, bobcats, and various reptiles. The premises include an outdoor swimming pool and seven picnic areas, which are ideal spots for bird-watching and relaxation. You can pursue exciting recreational activities on the 18 miles of hiking trails or at the miniature golf course. The park also has the Chief Logan State Lodge Restaurant, which serves American food and is open for brunch and dinner.

Fishing Fishing

Chief Logan Lake is a 1,129-acre lake that is stocked with trout, catfish, and bass. You can either rent a boat or fish directly from the shoreline. Locals consider this lake to be one of the best fishing areas in the state.

Geocaching Geocaching

There is at least one geocache hidden within the park. Download a geocaching app on your smartphone in advance, or bring a GPS unit to hunt for this hidden treasure during your visit. Once you find a cache, you can take a prize and sign the logbook. However, don't forget to bring a family-friendly item to leave in the container for the next treasure hunter.

There are 18 miles of trails to enjoy at the park. Some of the park's trails are short and easy, while others involve long uphill climbs, so there is something for hikers of all abilities to choose from. The Coal Mine Trail and the Lake Short Trail are particularly popular with hikers. Alternatively, the Guyandotte Beauty Trail is only one mile long and a good choice for hiking with the whole family.

How to Get to
Chief Logan State Park

To get to Chief Logan State Park, head to the town of Logan, which is just about five miles south of the park. From Logan, take State Highway 10 North for just under four miles. Take a left on Little Buffalo Creek Road, and after about a mile, the park's entrance will be on your right.
