The Stanley Cup is the trophy awarded to the winner of the National Hockey League's annual championship series, known as the Stanley Cup Final. There are actually three cups in NHL history. The original cup, which was created in 1892, is known as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup. Its home is the Vault Room at the Hockey Hall of Fame, located in Toronto. A Presentation Cup was created in 1963 to preserve the original cup. The third cup was created in 1993 to be displayed at the Hall of Fame when the Presentation Cup is on tour.

The NHL includes 24 teams from the United States and seven teams from Canada. The 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season runs from October 2, 2019 through April 4, 2020. Then, the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs start and will last through June. There are no exact dates yet for these playoff games or the Stanley Cup finals; teams will be determined at the end of the regular season. The Stanley Cup Final is a best-of-seven series with the winner being the team that gets to four wins first. The St. Louis Blues were the 2018-2019 Stanley Cup champions. Teams that have won the Stanley Cup Final multiple times since 1915 include:

• Montreal Canadiens – 24 wins

• Toronto Maple Leafs – 13 wins

• Detroit Red Wings – 11 wins

• Boston Bruins – 6 wins

• Chicago Blackhawks – 6 wins

• Edmonton Oilers – 5 wins

• Pittsburgh Penguins – 5 wins

• New York Rangers – 4 wins

• New York Islanders – 4 wins

• New Jersey Devils – 3 wins

• Philadelphia Flyers – 2 wins

• Los Angeles Kings – 2 wins

• Colorado Avalanche – 2 wins

LOCATION

The locations of the playoff games are dependent on the teams playing. In each playoff series, the location of the games is alternated so that both teams have the opportunity to play on their home ice and in front of their fans.

LINEUP

The matchups for the Stanley Cup playoffs depend on how well the teams play during the regular season and where they finish at the end of the season. When the regular season is over, the playoffs begin. The playoffs are comprised of four rounds consisting of seven-game series between two paired teams. The winning team between each pair moves on to the next round. The first round includes 16 teams, including eight from the Western Conference and eight from the Eastern Conference. The two conferences are further divided into two divisions for a total of four divisions. The top three teams of each of the four divisions get playoff berths. Two more teams from each conference are awarded wild card berths based on their overall regular season point totals. The second round of the playoffs includes eight teams. The third round, the conference finals, includes four teams, and finally, the last two teams, the winners of each conference, compete in the Stanley Cup Final.

The first two games in each series are hosted at the home of one team. Then, the next two games are played at the home of the other team. The location of subsequent games is shifted between the homes of each team after each game until one team wins four games.

RVING AT THE EVENT

The Stanley Cup playoffs will provide lots of opportunities for RVing and tailgating. For home games of your favorite team, you can use your RV for pregame activities. For away games, you can make the trip to the game a leisurely excursion and stay over one or two nights. If you are going to an out-of-town, two-game series with one day off between games, you can stay in your RV for the extra day and explore the area where the game is being played.

Renting an RV from RVshare provides the opportunity to choose an RV that fits your needs. If you are going to a home game and only using the RV for pregame festivities, then the size, the number of people it sleeps, the amenities and extra comfort features will not be significant factors. If you are traveling to an away game and will be staying overnight, then you will want to consider those things when you book your rental. Renting from RVshare allows you to choose a Class A, B or C motorhome or a travel trailer to accompany you to the game.
