The Unity Lake State Recreation Site in Oregon offers stunning scenery and a perfect location for kayaking, canoeing, swimming and other aquatic activities. The reservoir is created by an earthen dam, which is located to the northeast of the park. In addition, the region is ideal for rock hunting as it's home to some of the oldest geological layers in the state.

You will be able to enjoy RV camping in Unity Lake State Recreation Site. There are 35 sites within the park, which offer hookups for both water and electricity.
What to Do at
Unity Lake State Recreation Site
If you enjoy fishing, swimming and boating, you should check out Unity Lake State Recreation Site. That's because this man-made reservoir is a great place to catch trout, bass, crappie and other species native to the area. In addition, you can see beautiful scenery, which makes it a great place to go hiking or biking. Also, the campground is located close to the boat launch. While hunting is not allowed within the park, many hunters use the campground as a base camp during the fall.
Fishing
You'll be able to catch a wide range of fish species in the reservoir, including rainbow trout, bass and black crappie. If you visit the park during the winter months, there will be ice covering the reservoir, and you can go ice fishing if the ice is thick enough.
Nature Watching
Not only will you be able to catch a glimpse of wildlife taking a drink from the lake, but you'll also be able to see a wide range of bird species.
Stargazing
Due to the dry climate of the region, you'll be able to enjoy plenty of clear nights that are perfect for stargazing. The rural nature of the surrounding area dramatically reduces light pollution.
Flora and Fauna
The region is relatively dry, which means that there are few trees in the area. However, it's a great place to view local wildlife, and it's common to see animals taking a drink from the reservoir.
Hiking
The Unity Lake Loop circles the lake, and this 2-mile trail is well-suited to beginners. There's another trail in the park called the Burnt River Canyon Trail, which is rated as moderate difficulty.
Boating
You'll be able to enjoy kayaking and canoeing in the reservoir, and there's also a boat launch for gas-powered boats.
Swimming
If you head to the reservoir during the winter months, you'll be able to enjoy swimming in relatively warm waters.
Biking
You'll be able to go bike riding on the roads within the park, and the terrain is quite flat.
How to Get to
Unity Lake State Recreation Site
If you're coming from Baker City, Oregon, it takes a little more than an hour to reach the park. Get on Oregon Route 7 South, and make a left on Oregon Route 245 South when you reach it. This will lead you to the park. If you're coming from Boise, Idaho, it takes about two and a half hours to get to the park. Take I-84 west until you reach Route 201 to head toward Weiser/Vale. Get off at Route 201 to head west on Route 26. Then, make a right on to Oregon Route 245 to reach the park. If you're coming from Portland, Oregon, it takes approximately five and a half hours to get to the park. Take I-84 until you reach exit 304 for Baker City, Oregon. Get off at this exit to take Campbell Street. Stay on Campbell Street until you reach Dewey Avenue. This becomes Oregon Route 7 South/Sumpter Stage Highway. Stay on this road until you reach Route 245 in Salisbury, Oregon. Then, make a left on Route 245 South to reach the park.
Entering Unity Lake State Recreation Site
The park's terrain is relatively flat, which makes it very walk-friendly. In addition, the dump station and RV campground are considered ADA-accessible. There are picnic tables within the park as well, and they're located in a shaded area. The park's campground is located close to the parking lot, boat launch and earthen dam.

While you can visit the park any time of year, summer is the best season for aquatic activities. However, you can enjoy ice fishing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on the lake during the winter. Snowfall is somewhat sporadic during the winter months, and snow cover tends to come and go.
You'll be able to see bighorn sheep, pronghorn, Canada lynx and even hear wolves within the park. In addition, you'll be able to see numerous migratory bird species as well as local bird species such as sage grouses.
There are RV campsites in Unity Lake State Recreation Site, and they offer hookups for both water and electricity.
You do need to reserve a site at Unity Lake State Recreation Site, and it costs $28 per night.
Pets are allowed in the park. However, they must be leashed at all times.
