Forked Run State Park spans 791 acres on Ohio’s southeastern border with West Virginia. Inside the park is a 102-acre artificial lake. This was once a preferred location for raiding Native Americans to cross the Ohio River, something that was learned due to the variety of items that were dropped along the way. They used the Shade River, which empties into the Ohio River near the park, to move deeper into the Ohio Territory and away from danger. Today, Forked Run State Park is 3 miles south of Reedsville and 107 miles southeast of Columbus, OH.

Forked Run State Park Campground
The campground at Forked Run State Park has 81 RV campsites, 68 of which provide electrical hookups. Most days, a visitor can choose between shaded or sunny sites to camp. However, holiday weekends tend to fill quickly, so making reservations is recommended during those times. Fresh drinking water is dispensed at water stations strategically placed around the park. The campground only offers pit toilets, but a dump station is available for campers to empty their waste tanks. The lake and nearby Ohio River provide fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming opportunities. Boats are limited to 10-horsepower motors on the lake. Trails wander along the shore of the lake and through the forests.

Kountry Resort Campground
Kountry Resort Campground, located in Racine, OH, is only 24 miles southwest of Forked Run State Park. This park offers 225 mostly shaded RV campsites with full hookups. The sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. Campsites are spacious and spread across the 98-acre property. Most of the sites are back-in with only 12 having any pull-through capability. There are four fishing/swimming ponds that are well-stocked with trophy-sized catfish and bass. Pan-sized crappie and bluegill are also stocked in the ponds. Modern restrooms, a shower house, and laundry facilities are available for use. Playgrounds provide children of all ages with a fun and safe place to play. The central structure includes a game room, a fitness room, and an indoor swimming pool. Adult visitors are often seen enjoying a game of corn hole toss, horseshoes, or basketball.

Ketchum’s Marina
Five miles north of Forked Run State Park sits Ketchum’s Marina. The marina offers 100 RV campsites with electrical hookups that can accommodate RVs up to 80 feet in length. Sites are spacious, with fire rings and picnic tables available for use. There are no pull-thru sites; all the campsites are back-in. Ketchum’s sits beside the Ohio River and has a boat ramp that accommodates either small or large boats. Boats, kayaks, and canoes are rented out at the camp store. Because there's no limit on boats' horsepower when plying the Ohio River, swimming is not recommended. Community restrooms and showers are available for every camper. Watering holes are spaced throughout the marina, and a dump station is available to empty RV waste tanks. A basketball court and hiking trails are available for those who want a bit of exercise.

The first thing Forked Run State Park offers is solitude. Beyond that, angling, hunting, boating, canoeing, and kayaking are some of the favorite sports enjoyed by visitors. A concessionaire rents watercraft to those who wish to ply the lake's surface or launch onto the Ohio River. Four miles of hiking trails, most of which are challenging, let the adventurous hiker observe a wilderness unlike most. In the winter, many visitors choose to stay at Forked Run for its downhill sledding opportunities.
How to Get to
Forked Run State Park
The two main approaches to Forked Run State Park through Ohio come from the northwest by way of Reedsville or northeast from Columbus. To get there from Reedsville, take Ohio Highway 124 West (OH-124 W) for 3 miles. The park entrance is on the right.
To approach the park from Columbus, travel south on East Broad Street and Cleveland Avenue until you find Interstate 71 South (I-71 S). Drive I-71 S for 2 miles and take the exit to United States Highway 33 East (US-33 E). Follow US-33 E for 73 miles into Athens. When you get to Athens, take exit 197 A-B onto Ohio Highway 32 East/United States Highway 50 East (OH-32 E/US-50 E) for 32 miles. Exit onto Ohio Highway 7 South (OH-7 S), and drive to Long Bottom. Merge onto Ohio Highway 124 East (OH-124 E), and follow it into the park.
