Schodack Island State Park, a popular public recreation area in New York, is located between Schodack Creek and the Hudson River. It encompasses a massive land area of 1,052 acres that reach portions of the Rensselaer, Greene, and Columbia counties. The word "Schodack" is derived from the Mohican language and is a reference to the fact that the region used to be the home of the Mohicans' central council fire. The New York park includes miles of hiking trails, picnicking sites, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, and more. The park is close to Albany, Troy, and Cohoes, New York.

How to Get to
Schodack Island State Park
A couple of major U.S. cities located close to Schodack Island State Park are New York City and Boston. If you plan to travel from New York City, you will begin the route by taking West St to NY-9A N. The second step is to follow Palisades Interstate Pkwy N and I-87 N to U.S. 9 N in Schodack and then exit from I-90 W. To reach your destination, simply follow U.S. 9 N.
For those who are coming from Boston, start the route by getting onto I-93 S from Sudbury St. Then take I-93 S from Sudbury St then exit from I-90 W. Finally, complete the route by taking Eleanor Dr, Clove Rd, and Muitzeskill Rd to your destination. The address of Schodack Island State Park is 1 Schodack Island Way, Schodack Landing, NY 12156.

Frequently Asked Questions About Schodack Island State Park
Schodack Island State Park is open for camping from mid-April to December. There are plenty of activities to enjoy, including birdwatching, hiking, biking, boating, kayaking, and canoeing. There is a children's playground within the park.
A part of the park is a bird conservation area and is home to different species of birds. This includes blue herons, bald eagles, and cerulean warblers. Snapping turtles, deer, raccoons, and black bears can be seen within the park.
Schodack Island State Park has 66 camping sites to be shared among RVers and tenters. Electric hookups are available for 43 of the sites. The park has volleyball nets, horseshoes, and biking trails.
It's recommended you make a reservation at the seasonal campground. Reservations can be made the same day. There is a $7.25 reservation fee. The boat ramp is within steps of the campground. There are pavilions and showers.
Pets are welcome guests at Schodack Island State Park. A maximum of two pets are allowed in the day use and campsites. They must be on leashes no longer than six feet, and owners must have proof of vaccinations.
