Saratoga Spa State Park is renowned for its cultural significance, recreational opportunities, and beautiful architecture. This is a 2,934-acre park that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and it is also a National Historic Landmark and on the New York State Register of Historic Places. Located just south of Saratoga Springs, New York, this state park is home to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, two golf courses, two museums, the Spa Little Theater, multiple spa houses, and mineral springs. Both Native American people and settlers have used the mineral springs for healing purposes for centuries. Commercial use of the springs and a desire to preserve the area resulted in the creation of the state park.

What to Do at
Saratoga Spa State Park
Saratoga Spa State Park is the ultimate destination for relaxation and fun for all ages throughout the year. The healing properties of the mineral waters at the state park have long been used for therapeutic purposes, and these can be enjoyed at various spas and bathhouses. The park is also home to numerous venues, including the Saratoga Auto Museum, the Hall of Springs, the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and others. During your visit, you can also take advantage of boating, hiking, fishing, swimming, disc golf, ice skating, snowshoeing, and horseback riding.
Fishing
Kayanderosseras Creek winds through the state park and is recognized as a great fishing spot. It is stocked annually with rainbow and brown trout. Alternatively, Geyser Creek is a smaller waterway in the park that is great for taking kids for their first angling experience.
Geocaching
Eight caches are located in the state park. They are part of the New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Geocache Challenge. This annual event runs from the end of May through the middle of November each year.
Nature Watching
The Saratoga Spa Bird Conservation Area is located within the state park. The wetlands of the Kayaderosseras and Geyser Creeks are home to migratory species during the spring and fall. Of the 170 bird species that birdwatchers have spotted in Saratoga Spa State Park, 97 are known to breed on the premises.
Hiking
Six hiking trails wind through Saratoga Spa State Park, and all of the trails have an easy rating. The shorter trails are the 2.9-mile Geyser Loop Trail, the 1.9-mile Warming Hut Loop Trail, and the 0.8-mile Peerless Trail Loop. Other trails are the Five Mile Trail, the Gideon Putnam Trail, and the Hemlock Trail.
Boating
Kayaderosseras Creek is recognized as a great paddling destination in upper New York. The 9.6-mile Paddle Route is moderately strenuous and well-suited for kayaks and canoes. There are five access points for launching a kayak or canoe, enabling you to adjust your adventure's length to suit your abilities.
Swimming
Swimming is permitted in the two creeks in Saratoga Spa State Park, as well as three pools. The Peerless Pool complex is free to use, and it includes two pools and a few water slides. Victoria Pool is a smaller swimming area set between two historic buildings, and it is accessible for an additional fee.
How to Get to
Saratoga Spa State Park
Saratoga Spa State Park is located in southwestern Saratoga Springs. From the city, travel south on Highway 9. Several entrances to the park are located on the right side of the highway. These include Washington Baths, Avenue of the Pines, Gideon Putnam Road, and East-West Road.
Entering Saratoga Spa State Park
Parking is available at the entrance and near many of the attractions. The toll booth collects entrance fees during the peak season from May 29 through September 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Between September 5 and October 9, the toll booth holds these same hours, but it is only open on weekends and holidays. Saratoga Spa State Park is open year-round, but both Peerless Pool, Victoria Pool, the two golf courses, the Gray's Crossing boat launch, and the Driscoll Road boat launch are closed during the winter.
