This year, the Southwick National Motocross will host Round 5 of the SMX World Championship Outdoor Motocross Series. Known for its notoriously challenging terrain, the Massachusetts track is widely regarded as one of the toughest in American motocross, a reputation backed by top professional riders. Often referred to as "The Wick 338," this track has earned another nickname among racers: "the world’s fastest sandbox," due to its deep sand and high-speed layout, which demand exceptional skill and stamina from competitors.
The Southwick National Motocross is bringing back some of the iconic jumps and turns that thousands of racers have known and loved this year. The gates for the big event open at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, and the whole race will be sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Pro racers will be returning to the track as they have been since 1972 when the track was first established. The legacy of the track being part of the National has been going on since 1976, and this year will mark the 46th official partaking in the National Series.
The grounds have open-air festival seating, with a covered handicapped viewing area and covered Super Ticket Seating and VIP Viewing Areas. There are shaded picnic areas, and nearly 100% track viewing from a number of vantage points, including the infield. Food and soft drink concessions are provided, and restrooms are available.
The Wick 338 is found in a remote area just outside of Springfield, Massachusetts. It sits right in the heart of the town it is named after. Legion Rd. Southwick, MA 01077
The 2025 lineup for the Southwick National includes multiple racer practice times, opening ceremonies, podium interviews, a halftime show, and winners' circle moments. Be sure to check the full schedule for updates and more details on the weekend's lineup.
Camping is available at the Southwick National Motocross, but spaces are quite limited. Camping for the event starts on Friday, the day before the race, and ends on Sunday morning. Here are some tips for those who wish to camp at the Southwick National Motocross: • Campers are expected to leave the campground by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. • Camp reservations are not accepted, and all campsites are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Try to show up Friday morning to reserve the best campsite for your RV. • All camping at the Wick is primitive, meaning you will have no RV hookups. Generators are allowed, but be sure to run any generators in a well-ventilated area outdoors at all times. • Always sleep in a ventilated area at the track to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a risk at motocross events due to many campers with generators and a high amount of vehicle exhaust in one location. It’s a good idea to have a backup campground in mind in case the venue runs out of spaces. There are plenty of excellent RV campgrounds in Worcester for you to check out, like Pioneer Valley RV Campground. This campground has full hookups plus laundry facilities and showers. Another nearby campground is Southwick Acres Campground. This park has full hookups and pull-through sites, and there is an outdoor pool and yard games.
Aside from all of the RV campgrounds near the Southwick National Motocross, there are a couple of hotels that you can stay at, too. It’s also got an indoor pool and laundry services. • The Quality Inn, situated right off Interstate 90, is just 1.5 miles from the Westfield-Barnes Airport.
