In 1860, William Bohls opened a post office and general store in his home. When establishing Pflugerville, Bohls wanted to honor Henry Pfluger, who arrived in the area in 1849. Henry Pfluger exchanged his 160-acres of land located two miles east of Austin for a larger parcel of land about 5 miles east of the present-day location of Pflugerville. He created the town's foundation on this parcel with a five-room log cabin while farming and ranching.
