Kennewick is located in the southern portion of Washington, along the Columbia River. The city has a population of about 84,000 people. The land around Kennewick has been home to Native Americans for at least 9,000 years, which is proved by the discovery of a prehistoric skeleton often referred to as the Kennewick Man. Settlers first came to the area in the 1800s, and the area saw even more expansion in the 1940s after the opening of the Hanford Nuclear Site. 

Kennewick is somewhat drier than other parts of the state and is considered to have a semi-arid climate. The annual average rainfall is more similar to that of a desert area. Temperatures, however, remain relatively mild throughout the year. Summers can see temperatures in the 80s and 90s, and during the winter, temperatures do occasionally drop below freezing. Because the weather is so nice and the days are usually clear, Kennewick is a popular tourist town with people from both in and out of state.

Kennewick is also a great place from which to start a road trip to Las Vegas or other interesting destinations.
