The area we now call the Bronx was once home to Native Americans. In 1639, a Scandinavian settler named Jonas Bronck became the area's first settler. In the late 1600s, settlers constructed a bridge that connected what is now Manhattan to the Bronx. The borough's main thoroughfare, the Grand Concourse, was modeled after Paris's Champs-Élysées. The Bronx has long been central to American culture. In the 1920s, it became the site of the first New York Yankee game. It was the birthplace of hip-hop and a home for the now legendary Edgar Allen Poe. It's also home to New York City's largest park, the New York Botanical Garden, and the site of the largest housing complex in the nation. "El Bronx," as many locals call it, is the heart and soul of New York City.

• Carnaval de la Cultura Latina - This early June event takes place between the neighborhoods of Fox Hurst and Hunts Point in the Bronx. Festivities include live music, dance, entertainment, food, and shopping. 

• Annual Hunts Point Fish Parade & Festival - This mid-June parade fills the streets of the Hunts Point neighborhood. Join festival goers for post-parade games, music, food, and raffles at Barretto Point Park. 

• San Gennaro Feast - This weeklong September festival celebrates the life of San Gennaro. The parade and feast are held annually in the Bronx's Little Italy neighborhood.
