General Grant National Memorial

The General Grant National Memorial, also known as Grant's Tomb, is the resting place of Ulysses S. Grant and his wife, Julia. As Grant was the 18th president of the United States, the public thought that the tomb would be built in Washington, D.C. However, Julia Grant revealed that Grant wished to be buried in New York. Construction began in 1891 and was finished by late 1896. The memorial fell into decay but was eventually restored in the 1930s, becoming a popular tourist spot for historians and scholars.
