Bear Mountain State Park RV & Campground Guide

New York

Bear Mountain State Park covers over 7,100 acres in the western end of the Catskill Forest Preserve. The New York State Conservation Department took ownership of the area in 1961, which is when the informal camping program began. In 1966, the beach, bathhouses, and picnic areas were undertaken; in 1994, the Spruce Grove Area was developed into the Horseman Camping Area of the Catskills. Horse riding enthusiasts love this region and its convenient horse-tie stalls. The park is located just 5 miles south of Walton and about 7 miles northeast of Downsville. Temperatures are mild throughout most of the year, but the evenings and nights are usually pretty chilly.
